OT: The Official MR Super Bowl Prediction Thread!

Postby Enigma869 » Mon Feb 04, 2008 1:37 am

Okay, my fellow melodicrockers...The day has arrived! I figured if Plaxico Burress is on record as guaranteeing a win, the rest of us might as well weigh in! The Giants only shot to win this game is to run, run, run, and run some more. If they let Tom Brady on the field, they're DONE! Unless their time of possession is 40 minutes versus 20 minutes for the Patriots, it's not going to end well for the little apple! The Patriots have already proven that they can win running the ball, or throwing the ball. They have also proven that it doesn't matter whether the opposition shuts down Randy Moss. There are plenty of other guys on that team who can produce. Look for Kevin Faulk and Wes Welker to have big games. I predict that Tom Brady wins the MVP and that Randy Moss scores two touchdowns.

It's nice to see some people picking the Patriots.

In another story...The "Spygate" thing is all over the news again. I was thrilled to hear Ron Jaworski (a VERY well respected football lifer) talk about a playoff game when he was the starting QB with the Los Angeles Rams in the 1975 season, against the St. Louis Cardinals. He said that his backup QB, James Harris gave him a signal from the sidelines that he was able to get the defensive coach's signals and that a blitz was coming. Jaws said because he knew the play ahead of time, he was able to hit wide receiver Harold Jackson for a long 65 yard touchdown, and went on to say that he's never been at ANY level of football where this stuff wasn't happening!

Here are some quotes from Drew Bledsoe on the latest allegations:

Bledsoe also says a coach -- typically the offensive coordinator -- communicating with the quarterback doesn't have time to offer much more than the play call. "If there is something that they saw that they can give me, give the quarterback, in two words, they'll do it," Bledsoe says. As for the possibility of determining in advance the defense the quarterback is about to see at the line of scrimmage, Bledsoe says, "Generally, no. Now, if that is what the Patriots were able to accomplish, if they were able to tell Tom what defense is coming, obviously that would be a huge advantage. But whether they were able to do that, I don't know." Bledsoe suggests that the scandal has been overplayed and that stealing signals always will be part of the game. As a freshman at Washington State, he received an award from his coaches after he stole offensive calls from the sideline in a win over California; he had been able to figure out when Cal was going to run, pass or screen pass.

"Listen, that kind of stuff has been going on for as long as there have been video cameras," Bledsoe says of the accusations against the Patriots. "I know people are trying to make this out like this is some huge scandal, but it is at every level. You talk about college, you talk about high school -- people are taping stuff, and that is what they do. And they try and gain an advantage that way. And that is what the Patriots were doing."

Please.. The Pats held Randy Moss out last week to save him for today! He will get at least 3 td's.. A few bombs thrown his way.. It will be 21-0 or 21-3 in the 1st quarter..The game with be over at half time.. Trust me,the Pats are trying to go 19-0,they are going to kill the Giants! I wouldn't be suprised if it was 48-17. The Giants have no shot! If my Vikings could do it with Moss in 98,He sure as hell is going to do it in the superbow! Just wish he was with us and we were there... :(

Giants front four get huge rush on Brady. They pressure him on dry field. NE gets their points, but Giants play game of their lives, win 31-30.

What the Belicheat apologolists always conveniently refuse to address when dismissing what's apparenty based on the report that broke today something that's been going on years now as merely "stealing signals" is the following.

They filmed the other teams for playback at their liesure.
As in playback for deciphering unlimited times to figure out the signals. That's different than legally having a guy look at the other team's signaler and trying to figure it out on the spot or even taking notes.

All the bullshit about "sign stealing's been going for years" doesn't address why throughout all these years all these teams who cheated no more and no less than NE have never even been fined for being caught ILLEGALLY FILMING the other team's signals.

Contrary to your assertion Joepa...I don't apologize for ANYTHING "Belicheat" does or doesn't do. I'm simply telling you that when I played high school football, my coaches were recording (for no other reason, other than to steal signals) the other coaches sideline signals. The bottom line is that most good coaches change their signals weekly, so you can have mountains of videotape, and it isn't going to help you to decipher any signals!

The bottom line for me is that it doesn't really matter what guys like you and I say. When other players in the NFL are saying they're well aware that it goes on, it's obviously not that big of a secret. In all honesty, I don't even have a problem with people criticizing the Patriots for it. Just don't make it sound like this shit doesn't happen, because it does. It's on record that the Jets video guy was escorted out of Gillette Stadium, during a playoff game, against the Patriots for doing the same thing! The only difference is that the Patriots didn't bring the issue to the NFL. They felt the issue was resolved by having their security staff evict the Jets' videographer from the stadium.

Enigma, you say other players claim this is going on all over the place, but I haven't heard a single player come out yet and say "so and so films illegally, too." Again, that's DIFFERENT than JUST trying to steal/decipher signs and just because you guys did it in high school (what is illegally filming in the water up there in the New England area?) illegally but got away with it doesn't make it some persecution that NE did it and rightfully, legally got punished for it.

Wake me up when another team gets caught and I will call for the same (hopefully stiffer sanctions) punishment NE got.

But right now it's basically the Pats and the Pats alone getting caught doing this.

As great as this team is, this megalomaniacal buffoon has tarnished it with this illegal nonsense.

Anyone who truly believes that this particular season is "tarnished" hasn't been paying attention! Even according to the NFL, the recording took place in the first half of the first game of the season, against a DREADFUL Jets team, who they could beat with Matt Cassell at QB! I'm pretty sure that nobody has accused the Patriots of recording ANYTHING, since they were sanctioned by the NFL! As for other players saying this stuff goes on...turn on ESPN or read ESPN.com. There have been enough articles on espn.com that have attributed the quotes I posted to the players I mentioned. In all honesty, I was stunned to hear Jaworski admit to stealing signals, during a playoff game, on ESPN, but I know what I heard with my two ears!

That's one reason WHY it's tarnished.

They didn't NEED it to beat Mangenius.

But still, per the report today, this devious little habit goes back at LEAST 6 years.

The Giants played a tougher schedule than NE this year, too.

Hmmmm.... I like Lula's score there. Though, I'll predict that Brady goes down by the mid of the second quarter and doesn't quite make it back to par for the remainder of the game. I'm also seeing a load of field goals happening here. The Giants have nothing to lose and the Pats have everything to lose. I'll take the Giants with the 27-24 that Lu posted (if that high).

You're both cool, you both know your shit. For non-Patriot fans, its one more reason to hate them. For Patriot fans, it's one more reason why they rule the world. Anyhow. Back to fawning over tall muscled up QB dudes in spandex pants and shoulder pads. :P
