Well, the 30th anniversary tour was meant to satisfy the hardcore fans who wanted to hear more of the lesser heard gems. I doubt they will ever get away from it again, esp. since they will never have any new hits.

In a live environment I would take any two songs from Raised on Radio over Anyway You Want It and Stone in Love at this point. Just sick of hearing them I guess.

Everyone's going to differ on which of the DD they "need" to hear. For me, it's Faithfully and Escape. I wish they'd leave AWYWI, DSB, and LTS alone for a while. I doubt if I'll be attending anymore shows anyway, but still.

30 years ago infinty came out, focus on that LP... then next year focus on Evolution 30 years release
ESCAPE is OLD and tired---every tour since 98 has focused on that LP

These guys can go on and record 10 more CD's with Arnel, and it will NEVER change the fact that the name Journey will FOREVER be identified with the soaring vocals of Steve Perry and that era of songs that made this band relevant! The reality is that even if Steve Perry was still their lead singer, most fans are still going to want to hear the signature songs. Even though an artist like Madonna always plays new material (almost exclusively)at her concerts, most of her fans complain that she doesn't play enough of her classic material. Most fans want to hear music that takes them back to a certain time in their lives, and escape reality, for the 2 hours or so that a concert gives them.

I don't mind hearing the Dirty Dozen live if they're re-done a bit and added to. Good examples of this are the rocked-out, extended "Wheel in the Sky" and the freeform blues jam before/after "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'."

I could do without Open Arms for sure... hate it.

Just remember to be careful when you use the term "everybody." Everybody on this board might be well versed enough to appreciate album cuts, but everybody on this board is a microcosm of the Journey fan base which, not unlike most other bands (especially bands with 80s hits), is a casual fan base that would go nuts if Song X of the DD was left out. +1 to getting rid of Open Arms forever. An impressive Perry vocal, no doubt, but a crappy song. Not even a memorable Neal power ballad solo in the song.

Of these, if that's them, and I can't pinpoint #12 for sure...you can get away with not playing either of my #12 ones, Whos Cryin Now, Stone, Escape...but you're pretty much stuck with Wheel, DSB, SW, OA, Faithfully and Lights. You dont have a choice.

I'd love it if they could cut it down to that half dozen but I doubt it'll happen.

I also slipped in four or five songs for the diehards that would work brilliantly in leading up to a rocked-out Wheel in the Sky climax! I think they should take an approach like I did and alternate a ton of different combos for the setlist and keep things fresh for everyone.

Sounds like a great show... like the idea of having three of four TBF tracks. Too bad they'll probably never give us a set like this, although I think Arnel's voice could do quite well on the latter era Perry stuff...

The casual fans want to hear the songs they know and the songs they know are the hits. If they want casual fans to return, they have to play the hits.

Journey tried to do the more obscure songs on the last Augeri tour and they got a cool response by the majority of concert goers. I saw people getting up to go to the bathroom, not just when they played new songs from Generations, but even stuff from the Rolie era (the non hits that is).

Shame for us, but I understand it.

Music, like any other art form is subjective. As such, when it comes to commerce, it becomes the truest form of democracy there is. When it comes to opinion about what Journey should play, there is no right or wrong, there's only majority rule$.

I expect Journey to do that kind of set list on their next tour. But their first tour promoting their new singer on a 3 ticket tour, expect the DD and one or two new songs from the upcoming album and little else.

Wait, scrap that. Didn't Ross say something about no leaks on the new stuff? I wonder if they're just as concerned with youtube recordings of live performances of the new stuff as well? Just in case people don't like what they hear and decide not to buy it when it comes out? If that's the case, expect DD only, with maybe an Augeri era tune here or there.

That's a great setlist. I agree, I put together a CD for my car that contains, in order, songs from Infinity all the way to Trial by Fire. It really is good. And if they changed them up once in a while during the tour, that would be awesome. Don't know how well Feeling That way/Anytime would go over without Rollie on vox. I don't think I've ever heard it live without Perry/Rollie combo.

It is my favorite TBF song. It might very well be my absolute favorite power ballad (though it faces strong competition in the form of "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever"). Though, I'm rare in that I love the entirety of TBF; it's my favorite Journey album and - in my opinion - their most mature and musically complex.
