Anybody else sick of the 2-tiered baseball system where everyone has to wait until the Yankees, Mets and Boston have their way with roster moves?

I can tell you I had no trouble which team I was pulling for in 1986! Those fucking Mets absolutely CRUSHED a 16 year old from Massachusetts, and it took me until 2004 to recover!

Speaking of '86....how's Buckner doing?? Sorry....couldn't resist.

Funny thing is...I don't hate Boston or any of the teams. I don't like what the Pats did in the very first game of the regular season...but I don't HATE them. Too strong of a word. I DO think they should've forfeited that game against the Jets to bring 'em (now) to 17-2...other than that the Eagles are the only team I can actually say "hate" about...except for the Eagles' fans on here...they're shitheads for the most part. Red Sox...I just get frustrated with 'cause I'm a Mets fan...no biggie there. Celts....well...good for them. I'm a Rockets fan and it doesn't look like they're goin' anywhere this year so I could really care less. Besides....I don't really like the NBA anyway.

And need I mention I'm drunk again??

That poor bastard! He was soooo tortured by that one play that he moved to the woods of Idaho somewhere. I honestly NEVER blamed Buckner for that play. McNamara never should have had the guy in the game, let alone playing first base. The guy couldn't walk! The unfortunate part is the guy hit .290 over 22 seasons and was a pretty good player. All he is ever remembered for is that one play against the Mets "Behind the bag".

He was also a good defensive player before he started having the severe knee problems. Great hitter. He was good at working the count, too. Dude could foul off just about anything until he got something to hit.

No, not that at all.
This has nothing to do with my disdain for the most arrogant, self-important, obnoxious fans in sports or their perpetually over-hyped baseball and football teamns or the Yankees or Mets.
This has to do with my distaste for the SYSTEM that allows those 3 teams to have their pick first of all the best players most of the time. I was hoping like hell the Mets wouldn't be taken advantage of by Santana but they caved and now I hope he goes 8-23.

A couple of points here, Joepa. While I understand your larger point, there are more than three teams who have the finances to afford the talent they want. The other point I'll make is that spending all the money under the sun doesn't guarantee anything. Ask the Yankees, who usually have twice the payroll the Red Sox have, how that's worked out for them, lately. The NY Rangers in the NHL almost always have the highest payroll, and have one championship in the past 60 years!

I do agree that the system in baseball is ridiculous, and it's just stupid that teams like Minnesota have to give up their best players, because they can't afford them. The best system in sports is the NFL. EVERY professional sports league should have a salary cap, so all teams are on equal footing, in terms of the money they can spend. Hopefully the powers that be in MLB will someday wake up, and figure this out!

My husband feels the same way about the Cubs. He was a HUGE Cubs fan until they broke his heart in 1984. He swore he would never be a Cubs fan again, and he's not! My daughter is now a huge Cubs fan, and my husband tells her to just wait until they break her heart too. My dad will be 80 this year, and he's been a Cubs fan his entire life. He still talks about going to Wrigley in the 1940s and seeing the Cubs lose one of their World Series games.

We need a cap, Enigma, not just a luxury tax.

That's why what the Pats have done is far more remarkable than the bosox or Yankees.

The nfl is a level financial field.

I have to tell you jrnychick...I am stunned to hear your husband stopped being a Cubs fan, over having his heart ripped out! Red Sox fans had their hearts ripped out for over 80 years, but we would NEVER, EVER, EVER even considering abandoning our allegiances to "the home town team"! You can tell your husband that it is MUCH sweeter when your team FINALLY wins one, if he suffers the heartache!

I can tell you that I enjoyed the 2004 Red Sox championship more than all three Patriots championships, combined! The torture just makes it all taste better! You'd also never see a guy from Boston abandoning the Red Sox. We're all Sox fans by birth! Boston is about sports, politics, and revenge, and the Red Sox are always at the center of all three
