Ditto. They'd be putting ME on trial for murder.

And as for the Spring Breaks and stuff, they're not that bad for the most part. Kids just need to use some common sense, which most lack. Also, major problem (I'm assuming this still happens) with events like senior week and such, they start going at 15, 16 and so. The clubs and bars don't card like they should and teens in mass quantities will find ways around supervision. I don't know what's scarier, that things like this happen to begin with or knowing you can't protect them from everything no matter how hard you try.

Sad but very true.

The "coyotes" running illegals across the border rape some of the women/girls. They adorn "rape trees" with the undergarments to show off their "conquests". The victims don't/can't report it so they get away with it.

Rapists are bottom of the barrel scum.

There was a novel about humans being hunted on an island. That's wouldn't be a bad punishment for these guys. Put'em on an island with wild animals and let some hunters pick'em off from safari trucks.

It doesn't help that most countries don't have a drinking age of 21...so our kids think WOOHOO! PARTY TIME! and lose their minds and act stupid.

Even that isn't always inforced. I was carded less at bars before I turned 21. I never partied to extremes out in public like that, and always had at least one or two big strong male types around to watch out for me. I know it isn't the easiest thing to police, but I know I'd have at least 5 more friends living today if the ID laws were a bit more strict.

Most kids at 15 and 16 dont have any common sense thats where I come in,I keep a close eye on things, making sure she is where she says she is suppoesed to be,and no bars at 15 and 16 period. If you catch them when they lie and they know you care, and they cant bullshit you, they will respect you later on .Then you can trust them, until then, dontbeleive a word they say, especially if they have a boyfreind{I fucking hate boyfreinds} They shake your hand and say hi Mr so and so, meanwhile have an throbbing hard on for your daughter, boyfreinds suck

Of course, you know his arrogant @ss - my Dad's a judge, I can get away with anything - was dirty from day one. From sucking on the bottled water with his feet up during that one interview, to tossing wine into the face of that guy during an interview, he's a prick. Makes you wonder how many other times he's already gotten away with it. Jeez.

He's dirty, and he needs to hang...and all his buddies too. Matter of fact, I hope they cut his Dad's nuts too for the involvement. And whether or not, the old man played any part in all the crap, he should be hacked into bits for having a punk kid like this. There needs to be a clear msg sent.

No, it won't bring the girl back. And it may not really bring any closure, but ya know what? America needs to take a stand on this. Maybe this high school had no business on foreign soil for a graduation trip, but the fact remains that a citizen of another country decided that he was better than an American girl. And that is complete and total bull$hit.

Whether or not there is ever any real justice on that island...I think some how, this guy will pay...bank on it.

Now, now, boyfriends aren't all that bad. My Dad made sure to start the tour off with his impressive rifle and shotgun collection. Fact is, your daughter will give you hell for the next 5-8 years, until one of those boyfriends becomes a fixture. Be patient with her, keep on being nosy and show you care. You have the right idea. You might think she resents you (as might she) but I guarantee you she loves that you put forth the effort. Little girls need their Daddies. :)

If he is guilty, and it sure points that way...then this guy needs to be punished in a similar fashion to what he did to her....and all the rest that have been complicit in it..they should be punished to the fullest extent...like the father if he has been covering up for his son and if he paid anyone off....and for any that accepted money to push it under the rug....they now have the blood of this girl on their hands as well as the perpetrator.

It'll work itself out, Steve. Don't ever get too disapproving. As long as he treats her like gold it's all good. Push too hard and a girl could elope just out of spite, especially if she's in love. That's a scary beast. Maybe keep a shotgun in your la-z-boy when he's around. Just as a reminder.

When ted Nugent's daughter started dating, he would greet her dates at the door while polishing his cross bow. without putting the bow down, he would extend his hand with a "Howdy - and what time do you plan on having my baby girl back tonight, son?"

A couple of them ran - don't know if it was Ted Nugent or the fact that he was armed heheheh

His daughter would just roll her eyes and give him the "Oh daddy!!"

She's still alive.

I think the brothers will see trial but Van Der Sloot won't see a damn thing. While we are at this, I do believe his father played a role in it also.

And where do all pedophiles and rapists who have money go? Why Dubia of course.

This is so sickening. I can't even listen to what that bastard said. I wish he could be put in the general population of a hard-core prison in the US. Let him be somebody's bitch and see how it feels.

I have to admit that my daughter is going to think I'm so lame when she's a teenager! There is no way she would be going on a trip like that in high school. Once she's in college, she can go where she wants and I'll have to trust her to make the right choices. Before that, mommy or daddy will be attached to her hip on any trip she takes. Even kids who have never been in trouble can make mistakes. If she wants to go, we're chaperoning. We'll require that we know where she is at all times. And as long as her bedroom is in MY house, I can go through it at any time if I'm given some reason not to trust her.

What gets me is why did they have to kill her. They could have left her on the beach. I'm sure they didnt' tell her their right names or anything else. She might have known she was raped but she couldn't have pointed a finger at them. They could have gotten lost until she left. I just don't understand why they had to kill her. And I hope somebody does do something to him. No telling how many other times they have done this. And scarier than that how many time they will do it in the future if they get away with it this time.

Watched the 20/20 show last night -- what a jerk. If anyone deserves a death by beat-down it's this guy, and now to claim he was lying to impress his friend.. I hope some measure of justice comes out of this, because it sounded as if Aruba wasn't going to pursue it yet.

I don't know how the justice system works in the Netherlands, but I would be willing to bet that with daddy's political pull as well as all of the controversy surrounding this case that {should} he be convicted being put into the general population and potentially being "someone's "bitch" and "hoe" probably UNFORTUNATELY is not in his future.

So what? It would be for my kid, so it wouldn't bother me one bit. The thing is, make sure your aim is spot on. Otherwise the effort is wasted.

Easy to say now and regret later. It would absolutely bother you once the emotions had cooled and you are sitting in the cooler. Hey, I know this nothing more than casual venting on a message board, but all's I'm sayin' is that there's no reason for a grieving parent to paint a big bold target on themselves or become a martyr in the course of justice. I'd absolutely give my life for my child, too, but not if it wasn't necessary. People have to be careful about what they freely volunteer on the World Wide Web of self-incrimination, because it can come back to bite ya big time...

I didn't mean to sermonize... was trying to keep it very light, but it's a serious thing to consider. Lots of us grew up fearing Big Brother, and who'da thunk that we would end up BEING Big Brother against ourselves?
