Rik Emmett Interview

Postby Saint John » Fri Feb 08, 2008 3:27 pm

Heard a short interview with Rik tonight on The Loop here in Chicago. What a fucking great dude. He said a short time ago his brother was terminally ill with cancer and they started talking about life, experiences and closure. He said his brother asked him to consider one thing for him. Explained to him that life is short and that sometimes our perspective of what is important is skewed until we see that our end is near. With that, he asked Rik to consider reuniting Triumph. Rik said sitting there looking at his dying brother put all the "differences" that he and band mates had into perspective and that he basically realized that it was all trivial bullshit. Well his brother passed away a short time later and Rik was kinda floored when Gil Moore and Mike Levine showed up at the funeral parlor. Rik said he looks forward to the 2009 tour with Triumph and that playing with those guys again, and the band his brother loved, will keep his brother's spirit alive. You really had to hear the interview to discern the sincerity in the man's voice. He's truly a class act, not to mention a grounded guy with great perspective and his priorities in order. I didn't that Canadians were capable of that. :P

Amazing story. All the Triumph news coming up lately is making me want to check them out more than my limited familiarity of them.

Haha here's to hoping so. I only know Triumph's "hits" and they barely register on my personal radar, but I still know who Emmett is. ;)

Thats cool he sounded really good, there are so many artists that I never heard of,he has a great range. I liked Triumph, never liked them enough to know who the lead singer was. He does remind me of Perry ,Id like to hear him sing now

Triumph RULE!

Check out Surveillance / Thunder Seven / Sport Of Kings / Allied Forces...all classic.

And Rik Emmett's solo album Absolutely is a melodic rock gem.

I saw them a few times back in the day. They were great. I will definitely be catching another show if they play around here. Rik's a great singer/guitarist. Looking forward to that interview Andrew. :)

It is. I've only seen them once, but will definitely look forward to the '09 tour.

If a newbie checks out Surveillance, you can rest assured he'll go no further. That's one of their worst albums. For the uninitiated, Allied Forces, Never Surrender or Thunder Seven all make excellent intros.

might be a good time for another greatest hits compilation to be put out.bands do this when they have reunions or new tours sometimes to give new fans or old ones an overview of the music.looks like a few few people here might be interested so i think it would be a great idea for them........

here a few songs by triumph that are good that i put on my list i made....

1-fight the good fight
2-magic power
3-hold on
4-lay it on the line
5-when the lights go down
6-never surrender
7-rock and roll machine
8-a world of fantasy
9-midsummer's daydream
10-spellbound
11-follow your heart
12-tears in the rain
13-allied forces
14-i live for the weekend

That is basically the track listing for their live CD "Stages". Its a good one and Emmett absolutely shreds on the guitar solos on there. If this is still in print, I recommend grabbing it. It is definately a gem.
