Irving Azoff used to head MCA and that's the label Arnel was signed to prior to Journey

Yeah but it's different. It's MCA Universal Asia. While it's true that Azoff has connections, it would still be very hard to make that connection without help. That's the problem with any multi-national corporation. They are slow to change and sometimes, the left hand doesn't see the right.

None of the songs that Arnel was doing as a member of Ijos or his self-titled album sounded like anything Journey was doing or had done. He was wailing true but it wasn't until Noel the youtube guy put those videos out there that people OUTSIDE of the Philippine Islands and Hong Kong, knew that he could sing those Journey songs. NO ONE.

From talking to people who seem in the know, that youtube story is the truth.

Although I do like Arnel's voice, he is not near SP...no one has that depth and richness to their voice.'

He is the closest thing to SP because not even SP can sing like the OLD SP. We all know this. It's weird to hear that there are many people here that like the way Jeremey sings even though his voice sounds "remarkably similar" to Steve Perry. Arnel is the same way, but after listening to his last performance in Manila, I detect him singing more like himself. I'm of the opinion that when he was doing those covers, he sang them the way people expected to hear them. Note for note, inflection for inflection, soaring highs for soaring highs.

Now working with Kevin Shirley and the band, it's quite possible that he will be given a chance to do what you guys want, to sing like he does and infuse his own passion and experiences, with a nod to SP but remarkably Arnel singing with his OWN VOICE.

The truth is, more and more people are forgetting about "Steve Perry" the person, and remembering more of the voice. And Arnel is the closest to this voice than ever before. There is a reason to be excited if you're a Journey fan.

Bingo. Neal reads here. He did when Tapegate was in full force. He told me he loves reading this place and yes, he got the youtube idea from all of us.

No secret here.

I think he should just face reality, come on board as Locknload and just man up. No one is going to bash him any more.

Neal, what's happened happened. Dude, comp me four for Vegas you curly haired cocksucker!

Perhaps, but I can GUARANTEE you that the youtube story is bullshit. Irving Azoff used to head MCA and that's the label Arnel was signed to prior to Journey. They knew exactly who he was. This is Journey finally being smart and concocting a story to generate free publicity, which it has. Genius move. Free advertising Motley Crue and other bands used to do this sort of shit all the time. Nikki Sixx was the master of this sort of stuff.

In otherwords, I don't think a new singer for Journey is THE story. Not feeling like the world cares whether Journey has a new singer or not....but the You Tube connection works with all todays rampant activity/publicity for social "on line" networking. Anyone who picked it up, did so for that piece of the story. ANd I wasn't commenting on the amount of activity, not even sure, but only on the reason for ANY activity.

Now, whether Journey BS'd everyone with this for free publicity......???? Based on some of the past stuff, it would seem like way too much thinking for them. Sorry..... Perhaps things are changing and for some fans, that may be for the better. For me, too late.

TO Donna, the stuff I have seen is only because an article about Arnel MUST mention Perry also.....and without that I would not be paying attention. YES, much of what I have seen is Philipino generated. The original writer in Northern California generated a few articles...all his stuff.

Let's be honest here, JSS saved the tour (and Journey's collective ass) and that's it. He did NOT make them relevant again. They were already relevent. JSS was not the 2nd coming for Journey, if he was, he would still be there getting ready to go out and tour and promote the new material. It's getting a little old reading that JSS was Journey's answer to top 40 radio again and somehow he was crucified. Disclaimer for all you quick to type bashers: JSS rocks and is amazing on his own material. I just don't like his voice on Journey material.

texafana and Saint John though I know you both have more sense in your collective noggins, it's
not anywhere near apparent here.

I was a Journey fan in the Perry years.
Didn't get on board for the Augeri action right away, yet when Sir Soto
came to play I paid attention and was interested in them again.
After they not so gracefully parted ways with him we then heard Hunsicker
could be in the running.
He has pipes that remind me of Perry's power vocal abilities but for irreconcilable differences
they too could not come to a creative creation.

I feel I've been lied to and cheated out of what might have been the best things since Perry parted ways with them.
It's not old, it's still my opinion.

My personal opinion is that Jeff's charisma combined with Journey's name could have benefitted both of them. Top 40 radio? IDK. Perhaps if they'd gotten some kind of movie soundtrack or something. Both Jeff and Journey have been known to do that.

Crucified? Naw. In a crucifixion the condemned gets to face their killer. Jeff didn't even warrant that much respect apparently. That is what has so many people still pissed, IMO.

If I wasn't here, I would not even know that Journey lost Steve A, got JSS and now has Ar-Not.....Where is the heavy news coverage???? If you think this place is heavy news coverage, I'm sorry, no offense Drew, but this is low key music only oriented news site. When he is mentioned after everytime a Journey song is played in Pittsburgh as being the new lead singer, then he is getting good press. I have yet to hear anything. I am not holding my breath either....   Sorry!!

LOL. You idiots. Hunsicker might be able to carry Perry's Microphone to the stage, and that's about it.

That should be a fucking Biblical commandment. Comparing a singer to Perry should result in a MR stoning.

Right on.

After seeing Arnel sing Open Arms and Separate Ways after some vocal work and work on stage presence...hiring him might not be as far-fetched as people thought. Looking forward to your report on the Vegas show.
