I own the Garth Brooks/Chris Gaines CD with Lost In You. I think that might be worse than your Elton John CD.

BUT...if it is packaged with a brand new album as a set, then many will be buying it by default. New material is of some interest for many - including me. Still curious as to what they have done and whether Neal and Jon can come up with any new classic songs.

I think the "give away" or two for one or whatever idea for this package, makes it feel cheap, throw away, can't get rid of them any way else. Where is the confidence? Where is the class?

Love when people bitch about this like Journey's there with a gun to their heads going "Pull that wallet out!!! :x "

It's no more forcing people to buy things than perry's reissue crusade.

I suppose if you're a band that has a new singer that sounds vastly different from the original, it may be an interesting album to rerecord your hits. Maybe if Van Halen had done a studio album with Sammy singing Dave's stuff it may have sold some out of curiousity. But since Arnel sounds so much like Perry, what's the reason (other than potentially keeping Perry out of some royalties)?

I for one won't purchase this double package on principle. I think the only legitimate reason to re-record their GH's with their new singer is to promote him on their website for potential concert goers. To use it as bait to purchase new material just bothers me on an ethical level.

The only way I'll purchase the new material is after I've had the opportunity to sample the tracks first. I didn't like the Augeri years. I didn't think the band had any chemistry with him and I purchased anyway with the intent of supporting my favorite band, hoping I'd be pleasantly surprised. Instead, I was disappointed across 3 albums.

While I'm cautiously optimistic of Arnel, simply because I feel he's a much stronger vocalist than Augeri, unless Perry's back in the mix (or even Smitty), they no longer get my dollars on faith alone.

I'll wait until the tracks hit the iTunes store. I have a hard time imagining they won't offer the new stuff for sale that way (eventually).

Is that a fair analogy of what Journey has done?

I would with Bon Jovi - cos i actually prefer Richie's voice - but not with Journey but would be interested to hear it tho.............

I really hope there is a noticeable update to the music. If I hear the same solos I am gonna puke!

I will buy new material and by default get the re-record...I am ok with that.
Story-Teller, I totally understand where you are coming from but if you would think of it as buying new music and getting duped to buy the re-record instead of buying the re-record to get duped to buy new music I think it will be an easier pill to swallow.

I still want to hear some new music before I buy at all. But I will buy it as part of a package. I have to, I am a Journey fan and an audio collector....

Like I said in one of the other threads, I would MUCH, MUCH rather have a brand new album of all new songs over a re-recorded past hits CD. But I will buy a re-recording of the hits.

That's a fine hair you're splitting :D

I'm not a music collector for the sake of collecting. I collect things I want to listen to and in order for me to spend money on it, I have to like what I hear. Can't know that until I hear it first. This band used to get my support sight unseen, and new material unheard. After being dissatisfied across 3 albums post Perry, from this point forward, they have to earn it.

Great point!

The first remasters were needed and turned out great, but those ones that Perry did recently were not really needed at this time. In several years from now they may have yet another way to make the original remasters to sound even better yet? That would have been the time to do a second round of remastering. The ones from a year or two ago were done strictly for the sake of making money too.

If it's sold alone then the answer is "No." If it is sold as part of a package then the answer is "Yes." If you combine everyone's thoughts here, the general consensus is this: Use the rerecords only for promotional purposes and to tout your new singer. Package the new CD and the DVD together and sell it as a double package. Lastly, make sure you have a 20 foot display of Arnel (exactly 4 times his actual height :P ) in each Wal Mart to pacify ohsherrie. Would everyone agree that this is the route the band should take?

Are your grapes actually THAT sour that you continually run around high-fiving people with these empty-headed daft posts with emoticons whenever someone threatens to boycott Journey?

Much as I can't stand loons and your overrated icon, I can't get off actually impeding the loons' orgasmic enjoyment of what he does.

Not half as big of a bitch slap as 10 years of unconditional loyalty in the form of waiting for Perry to return, nixing your current lineup with Chalfant and Rolie, only to have Perry record and back out on a tour he never planned on doing (per Herbie Herbert...who was smart enough to NOT sign any orders that suppress the truth). That is arguably the biggest "bitch slap" in the history of rock. Yet people would rather whine about how JSS was fired. Irrational and absurd.

Not you, my good man.

At least your post had some thought and content to it unlike the juvenile one after it that I quoted.
