First Atlanta Show 2-10-08

Saw the boys Sunday night at Philips Arena in Atlanta. Set list seemed to be the same one that's been posted here, except we only got one song for an encore which was Jump. Went with a group of 7 people, the ones who were seeing VH for the first time loved it. I tried not to be skeptical and make comparisons, because I am a Sammy fan and saw them in 2004 with Sammy as the lead at this same venue. Definitely missed Michael Anthony's presence on stage! However, Wolfie was fine, and maybe because they are more into the tour, he seemed to walk around and interact with the crowd more often then I expected he would, and I believe he's lost some weight. Diamond Dave was Diamond Dave and didn't disappoint, his abs are killer! There was something going on with the audio though, and alot of times it was hard to hear him above the music. The synergy between Dave and Eddie seemed great. There was also some problem with the audio during Eddie's guitar solo, but he took it in stride. They played right around 2 hours. Personally, I was glad I went and enjoyed it, but I felt the 2004 performance with Sammy was a better show, and Eddie had an awesome guitar solo then as well. Truth is, I really feel we are fortunate to have VH, as well as other bands from the 70's still playing for us!!!!

I was thinking the same thing, you would think that by now the technical problems would be worked out, but I keep reading about this.. I've got tickets for a show in March and will hope for the best.

Not better than 2004? That doesn't sound good. The show I saw in 2004 was horrible. I'm planning to see them on March 28 in Saint Louis. I think it's going to be a roll of the dice on whether I get to see a good show or not. I guess I'll just prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

saw them in indy, great show if your not a sammy Vh is better
your right 04 sucked.
this show rocks, 2 hrs no bs 20+ great Real VH songs
the mix is probably done to hide some age,and the large places never have good acoustics
the only real negative is dave is really toned down, no real rants.
seeing then again in cincy 3/5.
the real VAN HALEN ROCKS.

I don't believe anyone would be disappointed in the show this year, especially if you are a DLR fan. It's just a matter of opinion, like going to see Crosby Stills Nash Young a few years back, anyone who was a Neil Young fan thought that concert was all about him, and those that aren't that Neil Young oriented could have done without those guitar solos of his. Let's face it, the original members are always going to be hard to replace! Sammy did a great job when he was with the band but not in the same way that DLR did.

The Atlanta paper didn't give the show a good review, mostly due to the technical problems, and they said DLR is just a caricature of his old self, and that Wolfie had no stage presence . Personally, I'm not sure what they expected from Dave, he's not going to have the same energy he did years ago, and I thought he looked great and continues to be a good entertainer. Wolfie actually did more than I expected from him, he walked around the stage quite a bit, and even reacted with the crowd a few times, also threw out picks. He definitely has that Eddie grin. VH is coming back to Atlanta in a few weeks at a different venue, so it'll be intersting to hear about that show afterwards. I would love to go and compare, if the tickets weren't so steep!

Almost every review says this tour smokes.

It was the greatest rock show I have ever seen. Period.

You must have gotten lucky. I heard there were some really good shows - and some really bad shows.
