DON'T want to hear a new recording of it from Journey.

THIS ONE WILL DO JUST FINE!

I probably would because I have almost everything that he's ever done. It's his voice/delivery/vibe that I love so much, so it would be a real plus for me if it sounded more like Jeff and less like Perry. :D

I wouldn't look upon Journey's choice to re-record them any more favorably with JSS than them doing it with Pineda, though. I think re-recording them in any way to re-sell them to the same audience is uncalled for. Sell the audience a live recording/video, but not another GH with someone else!

Perhaps Jeff should consider releasing his own Journey covers album including songs that came out of the bottom drawer when he was tour with them - Dead or Alive etc? This would certainly be popular and I would speculate maybe his best selling album?

There is the downside that Journey would receive some royalty payments though.

If it was part of a package with new music like this one is supposed to be, I would wait and find a way to get the new stuff without the GH.

There are two things that you can always rely on in the music business. There will always be cover artsits/albums and songs will often be re-recorded following a lead singer replacement. This happens all the time sometimes for the better but often for the worse. The only reason that there has been such a delay with Journey is because of the legal agreement that Perry had with the band to preserve the 'legacy'.

Now I love Perry's work but he is no longer a physical member of the band. I would guess that a move such as this not only makes financial sense to the current members on many levels but also allows them to attempt to find new markets without having people always look to the past and then engage in some new singer vs old singer negativity. Although I am sure they would want the royalties from the sales of past work Journey's money predominantly comes from touring so all things considered this is a positive move.

We will always have the original recordings - they aren't going anywhere. Steve Perry has his legacy and will always be remembered as being the voice of Journey. It's just more Journey music to enjoy, a refreshed take if you will. It will certainly be interesting to hear if the music has been adapted in anyway and the cobwebs blown off and I honestly think it will sell. At least I hope it does.

Well said.. where is the clapping emote..Man,someone has to send me a link to some good emotes :)

I will not buy any re recordings whether its Arnel's or JSS. I would buy the new material with Arnel on the other hand. Ive never
met neither of them, but judging from the clips, I like Arnel's version of Journey songs better. His voice is much more
powerful. :D

They do write music, they never stop writing new material (fantastic new material!). But the casual fan doesnt want to hear it - so they dont play it.

And your biased in the other direction. I've never crucified Arnel. It's all about personal preference. I AM taking a wait and see approach, time will tell. All I've mainly said is the uniqueness (JSS) and excitement of being a Journey fan is gone for me. Who knows I may like it. He's got a great voice, it just doesn't grab me like my other 3 favorite vocalists. I was a fan of JSS's before I ever met him, same with EM/SP. I met a few other (hot - as you put it  ) artists at MRfest that I am no more a fan of now than I was before, so that doesn't fly. Everybody's got different vocal and singer preferences.....some people don't like EM's voice, whereas I absolutely love his delivery and vocal tone. Believe me, I'm not scared AP is going to sound better than Perry, some have come close, but I have yet to hear a voice that knocks Perry out of my #1 all-time favorite vocalists.

i was never a fan of tribute albums, which is what this would be.
a song here or there would be ok maybe, i would rather them do a cover album.
although i answered on the fence, a couple of days ago i was listening to a new classic rock public station(www.classxradio.com) and they were playing seperate ways ,and i noticed something slightly different about it, the dj said it was kevin chalifant, and i really didnt expect that.(i love his voice but didnt pick up fly to freedom at the concert because i would prefer to listen to the originals).

not true for me. give us chicas some credit, por favor.

I got on the JSS bus at the Soul SirkUS stop and have every intention of staying on. he is my favorite vocalist in his genre, i.e. EVERYTHING. 8) meeting him was extra and changed my vote in no way. he's just awesome. his Journey songs are awesome. not better not worse. just awesome as they stand.

I think JSS is more popular on this website because JSS actually does visit this site and reply once in a while. He also seems to have a few very vocal friends here that back him up. He'll be 43 this year and he has a long history, performing with Yngwie Malmsteen, Soul Sirkus and Talisman. I love his vox on the RockStar movie soundtrack. "Stand Up And Shout!"

However, I do think it's obvious Arnel is going to be more popular (in both good and bad ways) simply because Journey has chosen to record and release new material with him. Arnel is going to get the chance to be the next voice for Journey. I personally think Journey made the right choice vocally going with Arnel, but only time will tell if Arnel can connect with the audience in a live setting. JSS obviously could, but Journey felt a need to get back to their classic sound, hence the move to find another vocalist.

Right now it's too easy and fun to bash Journey. We'll know soon if it's time to stop laughing and take this seriously. ;)
