Arnel's Vocal Coach

needs a fucking raise. Here's the latest rendition of DSB. Miles ahead of where he was just a month or two ago. This is really good.

Told you

Postby ttango1 » Fri Feb 15, 2008 5:44 pm

I opined that once he was taken out of the taglish and tagalog that he has to speak when he is in the PI, unless he is talking to Fil-Ams, he will speak very good english.

It's more that he just assimilated what is needed to be the very best frontman that he can.

Hauntingly familiar rhetoric. Same thing someone told me a few months back. Hmmm. :? I agree with your assertions, however. 8)

Considering I can tell the difference between WHO ACTUALLY SINGS FOR JOURNEY as opposed to someone who just copies Journey, I'm thinking that there are whole lot more of us who don't frequent forums that will support. Vegas is going to rock.

I await your long soliloquy but hey....isn't it funny that you can only write no more than 3 sentences at a time W2?
Some people might call that divine intervention. 8)

Oh and SJ, if I'm echoing your sentiments. BRA-fucking-VO It's good to be more right than all the people who said earlier that this is a failed experiment from the get-go.

I'll give him credit. He sounds more like Perry than anyone since Perry. Since Perry isn't up to the gig, Arnel is. It's all good.

im still pissed off with them and probably wont be buying any tickets and ill just download the New cd..they dont deserve my money anymore.

Yes im still bitter.

but just an opinion.

Are you kidding me?!? He nailed just about every note on that rendition. If you don't like the guy personally for whatever reason, fine, but seriously get your ears checked if you don't think the dude is a good singer.

personally i think he will sound great on recorded material..
My concern is more to do with stage persona and whether his live performances will be believable?

For me, from the limited amount i've seen of him on the internet, he lacks stage charisma.

but thats a personal opinion and time will tell....

I think Arnel will shine on the recordings maybe more so than the live performances, but that could change after getting accustomed to the stage after a while.

that is true.. i could be wrong and its all speculation at the moment. I think cause music is a very emotive subject then in a live situation the delivery is a huge percentage of the whole performance.
I think also with Journey's recent bad P.R, it is pushing forward the image that Arnel is just a 'voice' to suit the music so he has a big task ahead to calm the doubters.. (me being one of them)

I personally have very little respect for the Journey 'circus' but i do wish Arnel well in his stay with Journey as for him im sure its a dream come true!

Indeed, his vocal progress is obvious. The other 2 videos from that night are also impressive...
In my ears, what makes Arnel fit for Journey besides his natural tenor timbre,is the way the notes come out effortlessly, with power and always pitch perfect.
That was Perry's God given talent and the reason why the Journey catalogue was so damn hard on the previous singers.

I think you people going to Vegas will be dealing with the Dropped Jaw Syndrome.

As I wrote in the thread "Should Journey Have Changed Their Name?"...

One thing that bothers me, is his pretty much perfect covers of Perry's performances.

I'd think, that when a new e.g. guitarist is brought onto the stage, that guitarist usually wants
to show his craftsmanship by not only sounding as good as his predecessor, but to wipe the
slate clean by delivering a unique performance showcasing his particular talent and style...
- NOT copying exactly what has been done before.

I know some guitarists would consider it an insult asked to emulate the previous guitarist.

Critics could have some fun too... so, for Journey's credibility's sake - what's left of it - let's hope
Arnel Pireda has professional pride enough to showcase some vocal acrobatic stylings of his own.

In Journey's case, any changes of the original vocal line of the hits would be a mistake. All the notes and the vocal inflexions are SO deeply etched in peoples minds that they are expecting each detail to be there.
When they sing along, they do it automatically following the classic (Perry) vocal line.
Do I make sense?
Happened to me when I saw JSS with Journey - he respected all the vocal acrobatics of the classic recordings and it was such a smooth nice sing along experience. :)

Just to get a better idea of what I mean - I heard that many years ago Eric Clapton changed the solo from Layla in a concert and he was booed.People wanted to hear that solo, note for note. They were disappointed by the changes.

Ya know, when it ain't broken why fix it?

Good, yes. Not perfect, but then again who is? Not even Perry in his prime.

The diction seems better although some notes are nowhere near perfect pitch it's still impressive how he belts the high notes with his normal voice where Augeri for instance needed to use falsetto.

I think they don't get much better than this, except maybe Perry 25 years ago.

One thing I do miss a little (maybe due to having to compete with a loud band) is the soul and emotion.

I'm curious to be hearing the new album.
