Haven't been able to listen to much music this week, so I'll go with the record I'm playing now: Serenity - Words Untold & Dreams Unlived. Sort of like Kamelot/Threshold/Savatage, apart from that the singer doesn't sound like any of these band's singers. Nice voice though.

I see Serenity is listed as one of the Progpower USA bands this year. Never heard of them though, will have to check it out.

You would enjoy them I think!
I liked them live very much; saw them last year when they were support act for Threshold. Actually, I (and a whole lot of people with me!) bought their CD at the concert, never heard of them either before that. I liked their music instantly; think sweeping melodies and good riffs, and their singer acted on stage with such confidence and enthousiasm it was beautiful!

I like Serenity too. They remind me of Sonata Arctica a little. The first time I heard them I thought they were Finnish, but no.

Serenity definately have a Sonata Artica vibe...mainly from the vocal point of view.

I bought a whole bunch of CDs last weekend and Darkwater - Calling The Earth To Witness has been staying in the top of the pile all week.
It took me a while to figure this out but track 8 has some eerie similarities with track 6 on the new Pagan's Mind; one of the other CDs I bought. And I just kept wondering why each track sounded so familiar!

Both good cds S-Dip...but the Pagan's Mind is superior.

My AOW is

Soilwork-Sworn to a Great Divide.

I didn't think much of it at first but put it in the other day and it was like a totally different cd

Pagan's Mind just sounds like a whole bunch of other stuff to me....

I'll have Marillion - 'Somewhere Else' as my AOTW this week.

It's not much of a doubt, my AOTW is Ayreon "01011001"

Story-wise, not as good as Human Equation. But musically speaking, his best ever. The amount of star-power on this one is just sick.

My only wish is that Magali Luyten had gotten more parts. She is like a female-equivalent of Jorn Lande. She's got lungs!

Magali will be on the new Frameshift album whenever Henning gets around to doing it.

0100100100010100111011 isn't as good as THE but still fucking awesome. Jorn, Daniel Gildenlow, Steve Lee and Magali are the stars.

Still working on the Ayreon record... At the moment I find the starpower is sometimes more a distraction than an enhancement of the songs. The songs are damn good, but some of them I would like even better had they been performed by fewer singers... It feels to me like Arjen has been trying to feature all the singers instead of letting each song develop a bit more naturally...

The other record I've played a lot this week is John Wetton - Live: Chasing The Dragon. It has several songs of just John Wetton, an acoustic guitar and very light keyboards. Makes me get that tickly feeling in my stomach, so beautiful they are.

yeah I think they are 18-19....chops are good, but to me a bit of life under the belt is very good also.

Had a listen to them on myspace and they are very good. Another young band from over that way is Souljourners. They're also very good.
