If you could go back in time?

Postby Journey/Survivor » Wed Feb 20, 2008 10:12 am

If you had a time machine and could go back and spend a month in a past year, what year would you pick?

It's kind of tough for me because there are so many parts of the 1980's that I would love to go back to.

But I guess I'd have to pick 1988 for myself.

I turned 16 years old early in the year, I got my license and first car, was dating the hottest 16 year old chick on the planet, would hangout with my buddies a lot, it was probably the happiest year of my life.

So what year would any of you pick, and why?

P.S. Obviously 1988 was a great year for music too. I know that Journey didn't have a new album out that year, but still a lot of great music was still being played at that time. My favorite Survivor album of all time, Too Hot To Sleep was released that year.

I would go back to 1989, when I was 18, my senior year in high school.

That was another one of my favorite years. Both Bad English and Neal Schon had albums out that year too, which was a great bonus.

Easy.

I would go back twice. Is that allowed? Yes it is, because I do what I want

First I would go back to 1914, hop on that giant ship heading to America, climb up to the bridge and steer that fucker around the iceberg., thus saving 2,000 lives.

Secondly, I would back to 1999, and either make sure the retards in Florida punched the right box, or, run W's bus off the fuckin' road into a deep ravine, thus saving this country 8 years of living Hell.

With no hesitation. The day I set my eyes on my "better-half". That was... a long time ago. Never stop talking about it... together.

I would probably go back to the Toto concert last summer....then I'd go back again, and again, and you get the picture.

There are tons of world events that I'm sure most of us wish we could go back and change for the better.

But I really meant more for your own enjoyment of a time in your life that you would like to be able to revisit.

First I'd go back to 1972 and make sure the bitch that is currently taking me to cleaners was only a sheet stain and maxi pad residue.

Then I'd go back to 1979 and see my boys with Perry at the absolute top of their game riding it forward until the princess came into the picture. Then back now ....

I think about this question all the time.

Musically? 1985. Right before cheese metal like Poison ruined real metal...when MR ruled. Journey, Toto, Survivor, Boston, Def Leppard, Loverboy, the Outfield, Queensryche, U2, Van Hagar all at the top of their games.

Movies...let's see...probably somewhere in the first half of the 80's, when Chevy Chase was still funny. Caddyshack, Animal House, Blade Runner...I could ramble all day.

Until this past August I had been happier than at any point in my life. No wild parties, hot girlfriends, or any incarnations of my rock bands could ever duplicate the feeling I get when I hold my son and he falls asleep in my arms.

I'd go back to February 2000, the month before my dad died and tell him everything I would have told him if I knew he was going to die. Actually, I'd go back to being a kid, knowing what I know now and appreciate the hell out of my aunts, uncles and grandparents.

My sis and I had a (drunken) conversation like this not long back - it was our time travel plan to save rock n' roll. We would visit pivotal moments in rock history and intervene to stop things that shouldn't have happened.

But if I can only go for a month... May 1979. Journey played 5 straight days here. I'd be at every show.
(I'm visiting, not reliving, right? Otherwise I'd be 2 1/2 and there'd be no point in going.... )

I understand you on that. My father died in 1997. In fact I would have said something similar, except that my father would also still be alive in 1988 as well.

I'm sorry for your loss.
