This singer sounds like a mix of Rolie, and Chalfant!!!

 Just thought some of you may be interested in this...I'm working with a singer from Nashville on some of my original songs, and just noticed when he sent me this song. I sang most of the backing vocals. This is just a rough demo (For now).

He sounds like a mix of Greg Rolie, and Kevin Chalfant! It's very subtle, but it's definitely there! I just posted the new song "Just No Way" on my myspace tonight. I actually wrote the song back in 2002, but I decided to record a rock version. Go check it out!

He's wanting to work on a lot of my material, so there'll be lots of new stuff soon. Let me know what you think of his vocals! Thanks and again, Here's the link

You're a talented dude, my man. Your writing style is just classic MR with an infusion of your own style - the best of both worlds. Keep it coming, dude.

Thanks man,

I really appreciate it! Did you hear what I was talking about with the rolie/chalfant comparisons? They're VERY subtle, but after I gave his vocals a couple of listens I was like..."Wait a minute...that voice sounds familiar".

I just thought it was funny to hear both voices in there. I probably should have sent you guys a link to the entire song...I only put a sample on my myspace.

Dude I hear a mixture of Don Henley and Joe Walsh. That's what popped into my head when I was listening anyway.

Hey Rick,

I can hear the Don Henley (a little), but I'm not too familiar with Walsh's songs. I'll have to take your word on that one!

I really like Long Night..Sounds like your heavily influenced by Journey.. Nothing I wouldn't do myself.. I listened to it again..I really like the song..The singer, didn't sing with enough emotion tho.. I hear a Journey,Toto sound..I really like that!

Didn't see the connection. I too hear Joe Walsh type vox. The singer sounded kind of nasally, etc. Music structure is nice, but some of the sampled instruments sound too.....sampled. But still...good music, would like to hear better production with a better singer.

We are going to have to call you Jim "SMOOOOTH" Rykbost I like the music but kind of felt the singer was holding back in certain parts.

  I can honestly say I've never been called THAT before! Finding great vocalists out there is a real struggle! I think both Alex and John that I'm working with would do great in the studio, or even in a room with me at the controls. If I could produce what's being recorded, it would make a huge difference.

As it is, I record all of the music on my end, send them the files, and they send me back whatever they sing already mixed. Then, I'll add backing vocals on some songs. Without sitting in a room together, it's really hard to get ideas across. John only lives about 5 hours from me, so I think we'll try to get him here for a 3 day weekend within the next couple of months. The goal is to rough in some demos, then get into the studio.

The production will be so much better than what you're hearing! Live drums and guitars will totally change the whole dynamics of these songs. As of now, I'm a one man band! Anyway, I appreciate the feedback!
