Raised On Journey

Postby E5C4P3 4 U » Sun Feb 24, 2008 2:52 pm

Look, I'm seventeen, and have been listening to Journey since i was eight. So you could say I was Raised on Journey so to speak. I've supported each new incarnation of Journey since 1998. No young fan of Journey can, or has the right to take away the knowledge and experience of Journey that the "old" people on this board have. With that being said, I support this new incarnation of Journey not because I have no choice, seeing as how SP, SA, and JSS are goners, but because I want to gain the knowledge and experience that many of the people on this board have. I want to experience thirty years of Journey like most of you have. I truly believe Arnel is a good singer for this music, and I hope that they keep making albums and kicking ass live. I'm ok with others' opinions because I'm genuinly not an ignorant person, but why bash a band you've loved for thirty years? I see no point in it and that is why I humbly await the next concert review, album, news article, press release, etc. Let's face it this band has some kind of magic that makes us sit on this forum and talk about them every day, whether it be good or bad, no matter who is singing, drumming, or playing piano.
Just my thoughts, and I'm definately trying not to bash at anyone.

I say, welcome aboard, gentle(wo)men.

Remember this: Perry wrote ALL the melodies and almost all the lyrics.

well said grasshopper. as one of the "old" fans, old enough to have seen many shows with perry and rolie and many since those old days, i too wish them well. i think arnel has a great voice and will fall into his new role just fine. for people wanting to check out a live show, i'm sure they will be pleased. my days of hopping a plane to catch a show are over, see my avatar ;), though i am going to vegas, but baby is going too and it is to see some old friends.

This is an interesting night on the Journey forum!

I think it is fantastic that there are young Journey fans. Even if they keep calling the other fans "old", "oldies".

From one of the oldies that goes back to seeing them with Perry...

Rock on!! :D

Thanks for the welcome. I'm Nick. Honestly though, I don't want to hold any band member above the others. All five hundred :D band members that have been a part of this band over the years have equal tributes to the band success in my mind. I have this mindset because most of the members have done some things to harm the legacy as well as attribute to it. Therefore, I'm just in it for the love of the music.

Here's a blast to the past. I made a bunch of videos of old Journey stuff. You young fans will probably enjoy them if you haven't already seen them.

There are some Boston and Van Halen videos there too, plus some of a local band that a friend plays in, but they're the last 5 on the last page.

When I said "old" I wasn't doing it to be rude. I was merely making fun of the "revolution" of a certain member on this board who seems hellbent on pissing the more experienced fans off. :D

Given the presence of outside writers on nearly all his solo work (You Better Wait, just for one example, has SIX credited writers!) I have a hard time believing that.

You should have a hard time believing it...it's COMPLETE bullshit. Those guys were a writing and melody creating team and that has been said on more than one occasion. I see Loonville just increased by one member. Congrats, Daniel.

welcome E5C4P3 4 U and rumtumJM....i also started liking journey around '82 and '83 and i was eight also when i started liking them and other bands like styx.of course by the time i was a teenager in the late eighties both these bands were basically on hiatus.i finally got to see styx in '91 but of course to this day never got to see journey.even back in the late 80's my metalhead friends into stuff like guns n roses and metallica would make fun of me liking journey now these same people listen to journey all the time ironically.lots of good music all of of these bands made and its way better than most stuff being released nowadays.i'm seeing a healthy amount of younger people listening to classic rock and i think its because the music back then was so good especially compared to the mediocre crap released now.

Only the Young

Postby RocknRoll » Mon Feb 25, 2008 1:26 am

I can't believe no one has posted this yet.

Journey - Only The Young Lyrics

Another night in any town
You can hear the thunder of their cry
Ahead of their time
They wonder why

In the shadows of a golden age
A generation waits for dawn
Brave carry on
Bold and the strong

Only the young can say
They're free to fly away
Sharing the same desires
Burnin' like wildfire

They're seein' through the promises
And all the lies they dare to tell
Is it heaven or hell
They know very well

Only the young can say
Only the young can say
Only the young can say
Only the young can say

Just my thoughts, and I'm definately trying not to bash at anyone.

I'm 41 and grew up with Journey, but never really paid close attention until the release of "Escape" back when I was in high school. I remember being at a party and someone put the 33 1/3 on and I was hooked. I came across this message board last summer when I was looking for a setlist for a Styx show I was going to attend. I never intended to hang around here, but after laughing my ass off at some of the posts, I was hooked. While probably considered "old" for this board, the Journey knowledge and smorgasbord of other bullshit is priceless when I have nothing else to do on a slow cold winter day. If I wasn't doing this, I might be out with my driver hitting frozen dog turds over the fence into my neighbor's yard right about now. I want to thank those both young and old for both helping me kill time and making me laugh. I'm looking forward to meeting many of you in the northeast when they tour.

Listen, you can start talking to me like that once you get out of middle school.

I know every lyric to every song they have ever written, including the first three records and Time 3. Journey was the reason I became a musician myself. Most of the music I write is inspired primarily by Journey. I've been to almost 30 shows since 1981.

And you, whom I have never met nor exchanged ANY ideas or words with in the past, come out and speak this way to me? Wow. You have a lot of growing up t do, little one.

And yes, I was being sarcastic. Thank you, Laura! Anyone who would miss that has obviously been 'shrooming and x'ing waaaay too much in the past five years. It was tongue in cheek...i.e. there was a Journey before Perry and there is a Journey after Perry.

Now, move along, little ones. You have great taste in music, but you haven't been fans for 30 years, you never saw Perry perform, and you don't have enough respect and appreciation for what he truly meant to all of us. And a lot of you are UNBELIEVABLY rude.
