WTF!! Nader To Run For President.....

Ralph Nader has announced plans to run again for the US presidency.
The anti-establishment consumer advocate made the announcement in a televised interview on Sunday.

Mr Nader was accused by many Democrats of handing the presidency to George W Bush in the November 2000 elections. He ran again unsuccessfully in 2004.

Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are vying for the Democratic ticket. John McCain is almost certain to run for the Republicans.

Nearly three million Americans - more than 2% of the vote - backed him when he stood as the Green Party candidate in the 2000 presidential election.

That election was so close that a small proportion of those votes - particularly in the key state of Florida - would have put Al Gore in the White House.

"I'm running for president," Mr Nader said as he announced the move on the NBC's Meet the Press.

He said most Americans were disenchanted with the Democratic and Republican parties - and denied he was seeking to be a spoiler candidate.

If the Democrats cannot win by a "landslide" this year, he said, "they should just close down".

Mr Nader was born in Connecticut in 1934 and was educated at Princeton and Harvard universities.

He has spent most of his life fighting for consumers and workers against corporations.

In the 1960s his work on car safety led directly to seat belts and shatter-resistant glass being fitted in every American car. From the 1970s he built a reputation for dealing with issues including workers' rights, public safety, the environment and the influence of corporations.

He founded a number of groups including Public Citizen, which in recent years has been active in organising protests against the World Trade Organization and World Bank/IMF.

I used to be a Republican too, but George W. Bush and his greedy cronies changed that. I am now a Moderate, and I am supporting Obama. He has all the experience needed, and will bring the change needed to get our country back on track. You won't be able to vote for Hillary in the general election anyway, because it looks like Obama already has her beat in the primaries.

I wish I could agree with your optimism but Obama is unbeatable unless Repubs. all get on the Hilary bandwagon. McCain is dull
and the young people in this country and the minorities don't want another boring white man with all the power.

Nader actually pushes the agenda further populist.
I haven't heard Obama or McCain speaking out against corporate welfare or the systematic undoing of our once-reliable regulatory agencies (lead toys, beef recall, anyone?).
While the annointed top tier candidates have been gladhanding and eating celebrity ass, Nader has been speaking out against wanton criminality daily.

I won't vote for him, but I do support him. As long as he's able, and has the media at his call, he should run.
For christ's sake, it is directly because of Nader and his dedication to public service that cars even have seatbelts!

It will happen, just watch and see. It's already happend with Hilary. She was so far out in front and then real voters realized it's the right time for a woman, wrong time for another clinton. Obama, who I do see as a possible president in the future, just doesn't have enough experience and his message is fogged by impressive babling, grand standing, etc. People love Obama more than his politics. He has a unique effect on people, almost cult like. McCain will get his chance, Obama will learn from this experience and come back 4 years from now and will probably become the president we all hope he can be. Right now it just seems he's learning his stage antics more than than his politics.

I have never understood this argument.
First of all, Nader does not TAKE AWAY votes. People give them.
Second, if the Democratic Party is so strong & in the right, then why do they worry about Nader? People should want to vote Dem because of who they are, no?
Last, why doesn't Nader 'take away' votes from the Republicans?

He went against Bush quite often, which is why he has had some issues with getting conservatives to voting for him, including myself.
