Ah, MR's resident conspiracist.

Jeez, no doubt. Puhleaze.
Crews sometimes have to hire crew members in every town they play in. If one of those crews was inexperienced with US voltage, they could've EASILY blown the band's gear. Dang that SUCKS.

True, but usually those hired hands are working for the band's full-time folks
and there should NEVER be chance for something this simple to happen...

Besides, what "GEAR" could possibly been damaged that could hinder an entire show???
Honestly, aside from Cain's laptops, which seem to trigger all the pre-recorded licks, samples, BG vox, etc, what
could have been damaged to cancel a whole show?

Fishy to me. Anyone that knows a roadie knows that part of the first order of business is to check the incoming ac, setup backups, etc, etc.
The difference in voltage would have a standard issue to deal with.

It sounds as if this is an excuse for something else.

Unless the roadies were blind drunk or stoned... they would have known what the voltage was. And were all the roadies blind drunk & stoned to the point that none of them could figure it out? Yeah... agreed. Excuse is on shaky ground.

Was it "Sound" equipment that got fried
or the FOH teleprompters scrolling the song lyrics for Arnel that got fried???
That was a good one!

Hogwash, a screw up is failing to set the intonation on a guitar, misaligning a light can, not setting the levels on a monitor mix.

First, recognize the point that most tours in foreign countries, the gear is leased for the country. Most voltage problems are, frankly, never a problem. I'd be willing to bet that 95% of the gear that Journey has down in South America wasn't trucked down there from San Francisco but rented from local sound companies.

Once we get that out of the way, the relatively small percentage of equipment that's brought down will undoubtedly have switches to adjust for incoming voltages. If you've ever seen the back of a guitar amp that has a multi-voltage primary on the power transformer, you should recognize that such a switch isn't a 'toggle switch' per se, but more like a hard-flip switch that you see on the back of a power supply of a computer PS. Such a switch is not easily flipped when moving the equipment. It would've been set once prior to the start of the tour, and never touched again.

Lets also recognize the fact that Journey already performed a few times down there...most, if not all of the equipment would have *already* been adjusted for different incoming AC.

Sorry, if you know what you're talking about, regarding the way musical equipment voltage switches work, the AC excuse appears to be nothing but bullshit.

Journey was set up and ready to roll with the show. Moments before the show was to start during some last minute preparations, something got fried. Journey management is NOT happy and heads are certain to roll. There's NO way they'd risk letting a South American crowd into the venue if they had prior knowledge that the show was going to be canceled. Those motherfuckers go postal at times.  It was a last minute fuck up, accountability will be handed out and it's not going to be pretty.

Cancelling entire legs of tours, even literally aborting whole tours before they start seems to be more acceptable than having to nix a show to some "Journey fans ( ), depending on who's responsible.

Thats what I heard too. The audience was already in the venue's holding area and were not informed of the cancellation until over an hour after the show was due to begin. They attempted to fix the problem hence the delay and eventual cancelation following the failure to resolve the issue.

So to the naysayers it seems Arnel's voice has not given out already, it really was just an unfortunate event. :(

I was thinking more along the lines of Schon suffering
from a pre-show Botox overdose which caused his face to
stiffen up to the point that he wouldn't be able to lip the BG vocals
or give those "constipated grandpa" guitar solo sneers

Power issues, huh? I don't buy it.

I believe Eddie Van Halen INVENTED his 'brown sound' by fuckin with the voltage into his amps. Who knows...they should've gone on and maybe Neal could've reinvented his whole sound and the band (again..)

But no...I don't buy it. Sounds like the road crew is "takin one for the team"

Dude, time to learn another song, seriously.

He changed ONE note in that song, but he sang it a bunch of other times during the tune and also sang some notes in Only the Young that other singers for this band NEVER hit.

What's "Fishey" is that all the people coming up with conspiracy theories are the same people that just can't wait to see Arnel fail.
If the guy finishes the tour and an album with Journey, what will you post then? Gees, give the guy his props. HE got the gig and seems to be doing great. Read the Youtube comments. People are loving the guy and that just kills some people...

The facts are in.....news item in today's news update - whenever that happens. Still feeling sick. Doing what I can.

But all is well, this cancellation was just a shitty set of circumstances.

Jeremy - Suzanne, look it up!

Get over it little man.

Arnel can hit more damn notes than Jeremy can. Arnel can hit more damn notes that Augeri could. Arnel can hit more damn notes (probably) than JSS could when singing Journey.

Yea, sure but indecipherible mumblings and mispronounced/wrong words don't count
so I think Jeff, Augeri and Jeremey win out in this category.
