OT: Foppa comes home!

Postby Carlitto H@kk » Tue Feb 26, 2008 9:06 am

The NHL trade Deadline is less than 24hrs away and the biggest deal
probably won't even be a trade...
Foresberg has resigned w/the Avs!

Now if the Pens could pick up a gritty, in-your-face D-man,
all would be right in the Hockey Universe

Not sure Foppa has anything left. We'll see if he can get his skates right.

"Foppa" for Forsberg? What genius came up with that? The NHL definitely wins, in a landslide, for the most moronic nicknames in sports. I don't even know how these guys can say half of these dopey names with a straight face. It also seems like the NHL is the only league where everyone simply MUST have a nickname, no matter how idiotic it is

Yeah, the Avs are a below average team. Forsberg only makes them closer to average

You can get away with stupid nicknames when you play the toughest sport on the planet.

We'll agree to disagree on that point, Moose Man! While I certainly agree that hockey is a VERY tough sport, I've seen far more guys get carted off an NFL field, over the years, never to walk again. I grew up a complete hockey nut, in Boston, but have always found the nicknames to be nauseating! Honestly, most of these dopey names I hear sound like they're for a "Mites" team, and not grown men!

Sweet signing, as long as his foot problems aren't plaguing him anymore.
Colorado is 119-14-19-6 (.832) when Forsberg scores a goal. Unbelievable.

Play both sports John then tell me what is harder to play and how much more you will hurt after each game.

Right now, Detroit is one of the worst teams in the league. They are abysmal. Their injuries have really taken a toll.

Injuries are the key here. It's good our Dmen are getting rested and ready for the real season to begin. Now whether Dom's old ass can get healthy is another story. Ozzie has won a cup for us before though.

Yeah I know. Was just saying, they have a ton of talent out of the lineup. What a difference. They couldn't make the playoffs with this team if they had to go with this lineup.

Sorry Dean...I've played both hockey and football on a competitive level, and they are both VERY physical sports. That said, I always had more aches and pains after a football game. There is a reason that football is only played once a week! The human body simply can't endure more than that! I'm not knocking hockey. It's a GREAT sport, and it's ashame that most people in this country pay zero attention to it. It's a great sport and a physical sport. Having said that, the hockey that is played in 2008 is FAR less physical than the hockey I grew up watching. It's MUCH more of a finess game, today. Hell, a guy like Wayne Gretsky played in the NHL 20 years and didn't get hit 3 times! There is NOBODY in the NFL who doesn't get their bell rung!

I know, I was able to catch part of the Canucks game. I don't know how many times I said, "Who the hell is that?"
They should have been wearing Grand Rapids Griffins jerseys.

I agree. Well said.

Wasn't arguing, just asking.

However, hockey is 20 times harder to play than football.

I know.

The Canucks have adopted the Charlestown Chiefs attitude. Their offense is way down, so they are going the physical route. Fighting it up every game. It's working too. 5 straight wins, and they usually get the opponent off their game. In fact DET had a pregame scrap with the Nucks.

That was Aaron Downey trying to light a spark. The refs saw through that spear he gave and called a bs penalty on him for a little shove he dished out later on. Calling that penalty based on a pregame incident was crap. total crap.

You saw that? I hardly did. Jesus that was soft. Looked basketball gayish. The NHL needs to lose these soft penalties.

Agreed. Ice Hockey is an amazing sport, we call it Ice Hockey here since people get mistaken and think it's "Field hockey". But yeah, Ice Hockey is probably one of the toughest games to play, if not the hardest, since your skating on hard ice the whole time, which doesn't make it easier, and losing your teeth is never a fun experience. Gotta love the 80's mullets these players still have, seriously who does the wardrobe?.
