Arnel Struggles On the Rockin' Material

Postby DarwinNebraska » Wed Feb 27, 2008 7:18 am

Listened to the MP3s of the first show and while Arnel can sing the ballads and slower stuff... he struggles on the rockin' material.

He's not half the singer Perry was.

He kicked the shit out of Edge of the Blade and he also did with Only the Young. BEST rendition I've heard of that song.
Now, why don't we talk about how Gowan's keyboard playing kicks ass over DeYoungs.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Sherlock Fucking Holmes has just made a ground breaking anoucement!

And here I was thinking he was the next Steve Perry

Arnel is a great talent - but obvisouly not anywere near as good as Perry.

And again! That was his first performance. Go watch him sing Only The Young, Seperate Ways, Edge of the blade - he does some good stuff on them.

Dennis is a great singer. A decent keyboard player. But he's as far away from being a rock star as Josh Grobin is or Barry Manilow. It's a drag because I used to be one of Dennis' biggest fans. I still like him, but he really needs to do something that rocks and he hasn't in a long time. I will be buying his solo album though because I still like him, but if we're talking about rock, I gotta hand it to Gowan these days.

By the way, If anybody watched the Jimmy Kimmel thing about Matt Damon, Josh Grobin seems to be moving closer to being a rock star these days. Damn funny stuff.

Get over what?
While I think this Darwin-Ass-Muncher is a putz,
I have to agree with him here...
Arnel is not half the singer Perry was.
NO ONE will ever be half the singer/performer
Perry was, especially Perry in the early 80's.

Here's the deal, over at you tube people are posting that he is better than Perry ever was. WTF? That Arnel is the real deal, and Steve is just some old fogey. Granted he has his moments, but better than Steve Fucking Perry? I don't think so. You can't recreate perfection.

I dunno, he's pretty freakin' good. Hey, when you sit home for 25 years, people are gonna forget you. Right now, Arnel's out there doing one hell of a job. He over sings some stuff, which he's going to get in trouble with if he's not careful, but the guy can totally friggin' wail.

He may not be Perry, but he's as close as you're gonna get and he is winning over Journey fans bigtime.

Perry's two minute performance of Take Me Back To Ohio from 1986 is worth several hours of Arnel now....

You can't be serious...
I'm giving this guy a chance, waiting for 15-20 shows.

My iTunes fucked up recently so I lost the file....otherwise I'd be happy to remind you what all-time genius sounds like is as opposed to merely 'professional'.

Someone here is bound to have the bootleg though....

First of all, I yanked that quote from my post as it seemed a bit harsh- And I knew people would flip out...

Second, I saw Perry on the ROR tour. Great tour, but he was cracking all over the place. Listen to the Phily boot if you don't believe me, listen to other shows if you don't. 2nd, TBF does not showcase a great Perry. It showcases a croaky, lower voiced version. Arnel is not that at this point. Arnel's voice is kicking ass. Sorry, but it is. Yeah, he over sings some stuff, Yeah, he's can sceam a bit, but his range and delivery AT THIS POINT are the best to come out of Journey since I saw them in 83.
