One Hit Wonders

Postby Slander » Sat Feb 23, 2008 9:24 am

I'm interested to hear your guys feedback on this. Many have considered Survivor to be a one hit wonder which is rediculous, but I do want to know who are your favorite one hit wonder bands. Mine is easy. I love sniff n the tears Driver's Seat. Please no macarena or kung fu fighting etc. Just good old fashioned rock n' roll.

Alan Parsons Project? Fourteen studio albums, four top twenty hits, and a massive worldwide fan base? A one hit wonder?

You know NOTHING of what you speak.

I'd vote for "Space Age Love Song" by Flock of Seagulls, although they also had that shit song "I Ran".

I about shit my pants when I saw Alan Parsons Project being mentioned anywhere near the phrase "one hit wonder." Not even sure who I'd pick. If we're talking favorite one hit wonder BANDS then it's easy... Dream Theater. Technically, the only real single success they've had was with Pull Me Under from 1992's Images & Words. But I think everyone that's into prog at all knows how good they are. Hell, they're even releasing a greatest hits compilation in April called "Dream Theater's Greatest Hit (and 11 other cool songs)" or something to that effect poking fun at the notion of a one hit wonder. But yea, I guess they've got my vote, although I think it's pretty misleading. Anyone who knows Pull Me Under is by them probably is well versed in their catalogue... unlike say, My Sharona or What I Like About You (couldn't hum another Knack or Romantics song if my life depended on it).

Does anyone remember a band in the 80's called "The Unforgiven?" They got major airplay with a song called "I hear the call." Then the group vanished!

A classic! What about the group RED ROCKERS? Does anyone remember the song "CHINA" getting heavy airplay during the early 80's?

You should give Little America a try. Look up "Walk On Fire." This song really smokes. They got airplay on mtv in the mid eighties. Just great rock n' roll.

Talk about a flashback! I was on radio back in those days. One of my favorite ICEHOUSE songs was "No Promises" which did get some airplay on mtv! It's on my ipod! LOL. I really need to get out of the 80's! LOL

Does anyone remember a group called Eddie and The Tide? I believe they were produced by none other than Mr. Eddie Money. Their single was 1 in a Million. Andrew? Is this even in print anywhere?
