That's all these clowns are banking on now...sure there album will be out so they can show off there new guy and have a so called reason to tour ...but in the end the album will crash and burn and they'll go on playing there dity dozen till they retire....I wonder if neal has his AARP card yet?journeyinto2001 wrote:I hope so as well- you listed just a few of the many great songs Journey had with Augeri. One source of hope is that they now have a singer who can sing about anything. Whether they branch out enough from the "dirty dozen" is another though, as they have been earning their living since 98' off Perry's "dirty dozen" and they have shown no desire to branch out from that.
But we'll keep hope alive!

No, they haven't. They have to realize there's not much point - they didn't have any commercial success after '98 and there aren't enough people in the crowds they're gathering now that can even name those albums much less know the songs. The casuals far outnumber the die-hards. They're playing to the majority and the majority doesn't know "Higher Place" from a hole in the ground. Those people are standing there at the show thinking "When they gonna play 'Small Town Girl'?" If you pack a 15,000 seat venue, I venture not even 1/3 of them would know the post-98 material and that's a generous guess. The money is in the old stuff... why else would they go so far out of their way to get a faux-Perry? If it wasn't about clinging to the old stuff, they would have kept JSS.
Go ahead... crucify me for that. I'm ready.

a) He doesn't even come close visually.
b) He doesn't sound even close to Perry when he sings.
c) He has an obvious home land accent.
The only thing he can do is sing the songs in a similar tone to Steve Perry. They could have gone the "clone" way and hired Jeremey (who is prolly the best Steve Perry impersonator I've ever heard) but they chose not to.
I don't see Arnel even remotely close as a Perry clone visually or sonically.

The "Dirty Dozen" belongs to Journey, not Perry. And if anyone ever compromised the integrity of shows it was Perry by making them play Oh Sherrie, Captured By The Moment, Strung Out and other assorted songs when those were clearly not Journey songs. I'm sure the band felt real good about that. But hey, it's ok, Perry "never felt like a part of the band."Now I can see why.
ScarabGator wrote:But you have to remember they will play a lot of obscure songs(not for real Journey fans) from the Perry era and lets face it-the majority of the crowd will only know DSB, Separate ways, LTS, wheels, etc. Very few will really recognize escape, edge of the blade, or rubicon. So unless Neal is gonna pretend the Augeri era never happened then it would be good for the fans to throw some stuff in.

all songs by steve perry
all instruments by steve perry.
you all act like neals guitar has nothing to do with those songs, or jon cain didnt write or play keyboards.

this topic isnt about a SP clone. It isnt about Arnels looks, Perry voice, or origin. Its a question about songs played live. BTW-THIS IS MY 1000th POST!!!!!!

It does skip in a couple spots but...YoungJRNY wrote:PennyA wrote:Did Jeff ever sing "Higher Place" live at any concerts ?
Yes, It was once posted on this site as a bootleg, audio only..and some parts were chopped up. I can't remember if it was AR who posed it or not, but to answer your question, yes he sung Higher Place during last years tour.
Anybody have it to post on here?
