The problem is, if you don't do that, you've got people jumping down your throat saying things like "Well, that's just your opinion" and other obnoxious remarks. So you can't win either way.

I was speaking for SJ (can't you tell?).......I use "IMO" all the time.

If you ask any non-native, speaker English is about one of the hardest languages to learn, and most of you pointed out the reasons why, and English proper grammar is very difficult, because it makes no sense. LOL

The thing I find disturbing is that my 5 year old can speak better than a large portion of adults I know, present company excluded of course.

Ectcetera for etcetera
Expresso for Espresso (Crap, Siheed on a recent Lost said "I'd like an Expresso, Please". I almost jumped through my tv!)
your for you're

Here a few....

1. Subbing in an "F" sound for "TH" - ex. Will Smiff
2. Using the phrase "In terms of...." all the time.
3. The annoying "6 of one, half dozen of the other" phrase.
4. People who say "okay" before speaking. Sounds like Leo Getz from Lethal Weapon.
5. People around here (Pittsburgh) say "anat" at the end of sentences in place of "and that." Example - "I am going to go to the store anat."
6. Also, the "I be" or "You be," as in "I be hungry" or "You be silly"
7. My all time stinger is with people who say the word "DAG," in place of damn or expressions like that. With honorable mention to the ever popular "Oh Snap!"

Not usually. A friend of mine used to do that, probably still does, and we used to bust him on it. He could say it correctly, but wanted to say birfday instead. I agree with Stoney, that one bugs me.

When an adult does it yes........annoying. But I thought it was adorable when my daughter was a baby and called Aerosmith.........."Aerosmiff" whenever she heard them on the radio.

I can't stand "my bad" either. "Oops" works just fine.

LOL!! You're just a little smartass, aren't ya?

If we're going to gripe about spelling and grammar and ridiculous prases, I could write a novel-length post on how annoying all of that is. So I'll spare you all.

Spelling and grammar are two of my biggest pet peeves and so many of those stupid phrases fly right in the face of that... "You know what I'm saying" is one of the worst because that isn't the way it sounds when it comes out. "Yaw wha'mm sain'?" *SMACK* Maybe that's more of a speaking problem but it is annoying as hell.

Can we get rid of "by the same token" while we're at it? I REALLY hate that one.
