JOURNEY in VEGAS 3/6/08 -- FIRST REPORT

Postby Rip Rokken » Sat Mar 08, 2008 12:52 am

Well, it looks like the first report, anyway... probably because there ain't no free WiFi anywhere around the Strip, so no one here is posting... haha! Hell, this place will take you from every angle if you don't watch out!

So here it is -- St. John, Rhiannon, Gayle and a few others of us finagled our way into the Journey show at the private RE/MAX convention (how I personally got in is a story in itself, but it only cost me $20!). I was just a little late and missed the first few songs, but was amazed at how many people were there -- a very nice arena at the MGM with a great crowd, and plenty of standing room on the floor. Within only a few minutes, and without any problems, I was standing 4 feet right in front of Arnel! They were filming for the DVD that night, too, and also are doing this on the 8th.

Let me tell ya, hands down, Arnel sounded FANTASTIC, and didn't appear nervous in the least. Great stage presence and crowd interaction, and he really seemed to be comfortably sinking into his new element. I got several cell-phone pics and short video clips that I hope to post soon. Rhiannon and Gayle were having fun interacting with Arnel (no, not in that way), and Rhi got to shake his hand. Right at the end he threw out an orange RE/MAX tie into the audience, and I was an inch away from catching it! I later tried to get the girl who did to sell it to me, but no dice -- she wanted to keep it. No guitar picks on the stage either, and none taped to the mic stand. Where does Neal keep them? lol...

After the show, we hung out for a while in the casinos. There were several of us, including Dan, Rhiannon, Gayle, Frank Martinez, Journeygirl, and others whose screen names I didn't get. One of them was from England, I think, and is one of the mods of the official Journey site board. Very cool group of folks, and quite a few of them got a kick out of meeting "The Dokken Guy"...

Image

This short report will be my only one, and sorry I didn't list song titles -- I think everyone knows pretty much what's being played. I bought the cheapest little Internet package I could get -- $6.00 for an hour -- so anyway, talk to ya on our return!

Did they play any NEW stuff? I probably doubt it since it was a private show...otherwise I'm sure you would have mentioned it.

No new songs that I could tell, and I later asked Dan that as well -- he said no. I'm going to stick around for a few minutes to hopefully answer any more questions, since I want to squeeze all the pulp out of my $6 hour of Internet use.

The more I find I'm spending here, the more likely I am to take a drink... haha! That is, until I see the drink prices and it keeps me sober!

No worries there... if we didn't, they'd make us pay for that, too... LOL! Hey, I'm not really cheap at all, but I try to be very smart how I spend my money on a vacation -- and Vegas makes it very difficult to spend money wisely (gambling not included).

Good stuff. Thanks for the report. Look forward to hearing about Saturday's show. They were filming for a DVD at this show, too? Interesting, because they are two different venues which would eliminate the chance to do a "best-of" from both nights...must just be picking which one is better.

That would be my wife Sue. She rang me (in what was the early hours of this morning UK time) to say she got to Vegas just in time to get into that show.

5 minutes ago got off the horn w/ StCanseco, Riannon and Gayle.

It was about 15 songs, Dano said it was really really good about 700 people in the main part of the crowd. Played WYLAW but otherwise kept it Infinity-Frontiers w/ Castronovo taking After The Fall.

Congrats to SJ and the girls for crashing the super secret private gig and lending POSITIVE MR.com presence to the audience 8) Fun fact is that of all the 700 corporatate peeps at the private gig, our own mr.comers who no affiliation in any way shape form or fashion w/ Remax were down front rocking the best seats in the house at a private show

All our people are safe, all are well and having fun DanSJ is looking out, leading and ensuring all stays safe and positve.

Great first night as expected. Walked into Vegas around 9:30 or so, was supposed to arrive around 10:30, but the flight was faster than what it was supposed to be. We got in, and immediately off the bat we go to eat at Harley Davidson Caffe'. Great food. Great people also, everyone mainly just minds their own business, no problems or hoodlums whatsoever. All you see is propaganda all over the place for strip clubs, I had to of grabbed about 60 cards of it too, haha.

We came into town basically on fumes as it is. Me and TIME were running on about 2 hours of sleep, and by the time we hit the casino we were up for a good 48 hours. Just sightseeing mostly all day until night hit.

As the lights went down the fun started pouring in. Drink, drink drink, one after another. We were in contact with St.John mainly the whole day but didn't meet up w/him until late since him, Rhi, txfirefighter, and a couple other got into the MGM show. We were heading out of planethollywood to try to find Roken and St.John over at MGM. We were drunk as it is, and we were jumping walls in back roads and shit..having no idea where we're going. We finally were outside of the MGM when St.John called us. He was on his way over to Planet Hollywood, so we had to re track our steps and go meet over with him.

When I first met him, I told him I was expecting a 6'8 240 pound old dude. Far from it, cool guy, crazy mofo, and a great time. St.John was RIPPED. I could only understand maybe a couple words that he said, but the sad part of it I understood lol.

Got a chance to meet with Txfirefighter and Rhiannon after they came strolling in a little after Dan made his appearance. Fun girls, with great personality. Seemed like we all knew each other for years, hit it off right off the bat. TIME was buying rounds of drinks...practically all night.

The only part that sucked ass was I got carded and since I didn't bring the I.d (retarded) I got asked to leave the bar. I basically missed all the fun shit. There were a couple others from the board who I didn't get introduced to since I had to make an early get away. TIME came rolling in the room around 4 a.m completely hammered. To occupy time Me and my other brother streamed around Vegas all night until I couldn't feel my feet anymore. Great time so far. About to head out to grab a few brews, so hopefully I'll post tonight, and can't promise if anyone will come out alive haha.

Can't wait to meet up with the rest of the forum. All seem like great people. We'll try to keep you guys updated. CHEERS

Great report. Thanks for filling us in. I'm always interested to hear what people think of meeting up with Arnel and listening to him singing in person. Was there a back stage party at all? If so, did anyone get their pix with Arnel? I feel bad now cause I didn't make any attempt to go. Guess it would have been cool to be there, but I just don't want to only be a distance from Arnel. I only have memories of being right up with him and so only going to see him from a distance really isn't that interesting to me. I am very happy that you all had a great time and enjoyed Journey.
