Good songs. Too bad the fat bastard didn't write or play guitar on either of them.

The dude sure knows other people's great songs when he hears them.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

Yeah, but does it matter if he didn't write or play guitar on the songs? That's kind of like saying an actor's performance is somehow less good because they didn't write the material.

It matters in the sense that all he did was sing. He neither wrote, arranged, produced, or played on either of those tunes. As a singer/songwriter, I have MUCH more respect for people who do more than perform someone else's material. Yes, it is directly related to talent.

good point.. Brooks made the songs his own .. scored big ,, and made the writers a lot of money... i honestly believe that he completley ROCKED kiss' Hard Luck Woman , i LOVE his version.. but.... i also bought Chris Gaines..  ..no really,, i bought it ,, and told folks to expect a movie.. i looked like a freak ..

I see. So if Ted Tally had played Hannibal Lecter it would have been as effective right?

I have the utmost respect for people who can write their own material. But to say that the performance is somehow less because he didn't do the aforementioned is rather narrow. He did the material great justice.

Even though my favorite Journey song is Still They Ride, for some reason Only The Young gets me everytime I hear it. Right from the first verse...........just something about Perry's vocal tone on that one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKvzidCysMM

Angels, by Robbie Williams just gives me goosebumps..............BEAUTIFUL song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUCdDzfE ... re=related

There is sooooo many songs (being a music nut) that "get me" for either just being very beautiful or just great "feel good" songs......like Lunatic Fringe, puts a smile on my face right from the first guitar chord. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TksAGzfw8Z0

LOL, we DO have the same taste, don't we. :) Tom Cochrane/Red Rider was just here recently. You would get a kick out of all these 70/80s artists playing here lately........April Wine, Honeymoon Suite, Doucette, Helix, Starship, Lee Aaron, Alana Myles. You live far to far away Lar.

Karen Carpenter has one of the best, strongest, emotional voices ever.
Marilyn McCoo does too.

Well, if you want to go country, then 'The Chair' or 'Amarillo By Morning' by George Strait. And check out Steve Wariner for 'The Weekend', or 'Small Town Girl'.

Man, this thread could easily go on naming great songs forever.

ONE HUNDRED TEN PERCENT.....agreed.....it is absolutely his swan song...the entire album is fuggin awesome. Tell me you're a queen fan....I consider myself the biggest one here...

But on a side note...."The Living Years" by Mike & The Mechanics (and a later version by Paul Carrack) - and the solo piano version of "No One Is To Blame" by Howard Jones... "Trial By Fire" by our beloved Journey....and "I Stand Alone" later by Steve Perry....I could go on about Starship, Peter Cetera, and Christopher Cross, but those are rainy day songs and I have a harder image to uphold

Cetera and Cross? Two of my absolute favorites. My favorite Cetera track is actually "The End of Camelot," really love the production and performances on the song. The outro guitar solo has a great feel and even better tone.

Christopher Cross kinda flies under the radar a bit besides Sailing and Arthur's Theme, but he's got tons of good tunes. He's a bit AC, but the guy's got a damn good voice. The A Night With Christopher Cross DVD/CD is great... Michael McDonald even shows up for a bit.

I'll go with "Only The Young" as well - because recently I had the opportunity to re-work the song as an acoustic version...and didn't realize the power of the song until we took the "power" away...and imho, this is a a great version

Took me a while but here's one I just love that gets to me - gee, I was 6 when I first heard it on the radio!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seuwhZvX ... re=related

Of course, "Still They Ride" is the major one that gets me.

Here's another - this one by Keane: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HrDZWXlqJ0

This one, too by Jewel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZtbLInC ... re=related

I heard this & loved it before I saw it in the movie, "Return to Me" - it was a great choice for that scene but it is so sad & now when I hear it it sounds more sad than hopeful.

I first heard this while watching ice skating on t.v. (I used to be an avid fan) and this was used for the ice dancing pair that later won a Gold Olympic metal....they were very sexy looking, too...she with long flowing flaming red hair, he with long flowing blond. Here's Andre Bocelli & Sarah Brightman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfKvdy6voKU
