Re-Records - SOme ideas

Postby Gin and Tonic Sky » Fri Mar 14, 2008 10:18 pm

As Journey are going to re-record the classics, I think they will need something in there which really grabs attentinon and makes the old classics even better.
Ive been thinking of a few things they can do. Here are just two ideas on how they could enhance two great Journey songs.

1)Have fans submit their favorite misheard lryics and mix them in as an extra fun verse: You all know that famous second verse to Faithfully:
“Circus size,
Under the big top they wore,
We all feed the clowns to make them smile,
Their spacious size, oh almost in every show,
Theyre Wondering how much weight they’d lost without you. “

2) The original Don’t Stop believing just isn’t emotional enough! ! Interrupt Don’t Stop Believing with a spoken monologue. Its always needed damn good emotional, spoken, eight minute testimonial in the middle of it. Either Neil or Arnel could tell a story in a Johnny Cash like style . It can go something like this:
"Oh yeah folks never stop believin..Let me tell you what happened to me .. Once I thought short folks could never get laid, but then one night in Memphis Tennesee......(or Manilla Phillipee) ….(insert tear jerkin story about a dimly lit nightclub with cigarrette butts and sawdust on the floor) …… it happened to me and I didn’t have to pay..yes folks never stop believin.

Then if Journey feel like they wanted to charge another $5.99 for the CD, they could burn a Mormon mix version to this
Once the testimonial is over mix in the Mormon tablernacle choir singing amazing grace or the hallelujah chorus before the thing breaks into the final Don’t Stop Beleiving chorus.

I mean hell, if you are gonna make a mockery out of the originals, you gotta do it all they way dont ya :?:

They're not making a "mockery" of anything. They're re-recording every instrument as well as the vocals. The songs will be fresh, updated and with a different sound. At the very least give them a chance, and if you still don't like them then you have a valid case.

I'm curious and I have an open mind.

But man oh man....they had better be good - for the band's own sake!
I say that from the point of view of a journalist that has seen, featured and reviewed similar attempts by other bands over a number of years. And aside from a couple of acoustic albums where things are changed up quite nicely, other results have ended in disaster each time.

And what 11 tunes were picked? So many questions!

Perhaps not, I was, by the way focusing more on being dowright silly rather than dogmatic or opinionated in my post.!

if they had done this in 01 when arrival and the dvd came out I could get excited aobut this,.
Given the circumstances and all that has happened I think this is a bad decision and even worse timing.
