Why does anyone give this fool a platform? He stands up there spewing hatred and collecting his handsome paycheck, Obama chose
this church to attend out of all the ones he could possibly attend? Ridiculous!

Yes and No.
These are multifarious issues deserving of the kind of measured tailored reponse that I don't have the time to give you right now.
However, witnessing the influx of rah-rah jingoists on this forum lately, I have little doubt that any form of dissent (thoughtful or otherwise) would be immediately denounced as high treason against the state.

For those who get their news from Sean Hannity, the answer to all of the above is, of course, a swift and categorical "Hell No!"

So rather than answer the questions honestly, you choose to insult the people that you think might disagree with you?

Even if you took the time to write the sort of involved response the question demands TNC, they would pick out hot button words and phrases and make the discussion about them rather than the original topic of the question.

Now here's what I really think about this topic.

Do any of you remember back about the time of the Iowa caucuses when I said that this country would be held hostage over race just like LA was during the OJ trial? Was I wrong?

Obama should no more be elected because he's black than OJ should be playing golf today because he's black. If Obama is elected it should be because the majority of the American people think he's the right person for the job. Then again, Bush isn't the person the American people thought was the right one for the job. Gee isn't it great to live in such an honest and ethical democratic republic?

I'll vote for Obama if he gets the nomination though, because he's far the lesser of two evils.

The original topic was Obamas Pastor. We've been on topic, you must have missed it.

No, I didn't miss it, I'm as appalled by it as you are, but not for the same reasons.

Well, why are you appalled by it?

Because it's not the most important issue that the voters should be focused on in this election but it's the one the media is fucusing the voters' attention on.

Don't you think it's pretty important to determine why Obama associated for 20 YEARS with a known racist? I don't buy Obama's line that he never personally witnessed this guy saying anything that controversial. I just don't buy it.

Neither do I.

W got tagged in 2000 for visiting Bob Jones University once. I don''t know much about BJU (I would hate to have those initials), but know it's controversial to some. If one visit is reason for alarm, shouldn't membership/continued participation in a "controversial" church be reason?

If Obama, or anyone else seeks membership or participation in an organization, it seems that he should know what it stands for. I understand maybe not knowing about it when you got involved, but years later is a little hard to believe.

To be completely and painfully honest Dave, I don't know what to think about all of this. I don't know what else to say right now.

Edited to add: I won't vote for McCain.

I live less than 5 miles from Obama's pastor's parish and I can categorically tell you that he is certifiably insane. His rants are very anti-white. He makes the Black Panthers look like the girl scouts. I work with a couple of black guys that might even be members...I'll ask them tomorrow.

Ditto. The issues are so divisive and much of the discourse is one side or the other misrepresenting what the other guy/gal stands for, it wears me slick just to listen to it any more. And that is even with my degree in political science. :?

I will be proudly voting for Mr. McCain. He served his country proudly, has been a bi-partisan politician (even though I disagreed with many of his stances), and he, unlike Obama, is unwilling to sit down and compromise with heads of terrorist states.

He certainly deserves credit for serving his country. However, just about every time he's been "bi-partisan", he's ended up adopting the stance of the other side rather than vice-versa.

Doesn't matter. Neither party is right on every issue. The Republicans are wrong on a handful of the several thousand.

This may be Obama's undoing. I especially found this paragraph distressing...

In his sermon that day, Wright tore into America, referring to the “United States of White America” and lacing his sermon with expletives as Obama listened. Hearing Wright’s attacks on his own country, Obama had the opportunity to walk out, but Davis said the senator sat in his pew and nodded in agreement.
