as for his guitars im sure he will play mostly what brad had done to layer the sound,
so they dont need to bring in a name guitarist. mike is a very good guitar player in his own right.
tom has stated previously about the layring they use on tour, and always have one of the best live mixes in the business.
the last tour you could make out the 3 guitars, and all the vocals (incredible)

I saw Boston in 2004 and their live sound was incredible, perhaps the best I've ever heard. They had five guitarists to pull that off (Scholz, Pihl, Fran & Anthony Cosmo, and Delp).

Not bad. He'll do great with Michael Sweet.
It's not Brad Delp and Fran Cosmo, but I dare anyone to try to find a good live recording on Boston with those two on vocals. Boston was great in the studio, but were unable to replicate the studio sound in a live setting. All of the live recordings of Boston that I have heard sucked pretty bad.
Tommy has a bad ass guitarist on his recordings!

You have gotta be kiddin, right? regarding Boston in a live setting sucked?? Head on over to G101 and search Boston. There are huge amounts of live shows there, some of which i posted myself. Check out the 'More than a feeling' boot. The 'Stagestruck' boot. The 'Giants Stadium' boot, and then of course you have to check the infamous 'Long Beach' boot. I defy anyone to say that Boston sucked on any of those boots. You must be stone freakin deaf.

Ummm...Yeah. The first Boston boot I ever heard wasn't all that fantastic, to tell the truth but I've heard several since then that were above average to excellent.

I really hope they keep pulling some gems out to play... I really enjoyed hearing "Surrender To Me" and "Magdalene" from Walk On in 04(??). I'd love to hear It's Easy, A Man I'll Never Be, I Think I Like It, Can'tcha Say, I Need Your Love, and We Can Make It get dusted off...
Re: Boston's live sound. Both times I saw them (I think in 03 and 04, whichever years they did the back to back tours...) their sound was great once it was established but both times the first 3 or 4 songs of the set were ruined because the vocals were literally inaudible and the guitars were almost nonexistent. It's like they had so much going on, so many instruments/vocals etc to worry about mixing that the sound man couldn't even figure it out until the show was 3 or 4 songs deep. Too bad the songs that got ruined were classics like Feelin Satisfied, Rock n Roll Band, and Peace of Mind...
The proof is already out there as far as Michael's vocals on his own stuff, Stryper and we have already heard him sing Boston and know he can.
This has nothing to do with who he is or what he has done..he can flat out still sing and many of the Boston songs are perfect for his voice/style.
Except for a few dicks who want to play with his beliefs and how he used to dress and being a part of all that..the response has been great.
His beliefs and how he used to dress have nothing to do with how he sings and what he will do on the Boston songs.
Tom is a perfectionist..as is Michael..Tom would not bring him in if he didn't believe..period.
I think by now with different stuff that has been posted from rescent stuff..people are learning more about Michael than just that damn song 'Honestly' ..which some have used to nail him with..and that fact that he used to dress like a bumble bee.

Well said. I think there are many of us who look back to our mullet-wearing, Aquanet, Spandex days of 20 years ago with a little embarassment. But, hey...it was the style back then. If he still dressed like that well, that would be another matter altogether.
Michael is great. After seeing him perform I can tell every naysayer who questions this move to just watch him once. He will blow the doors off this gig. He's a GREAT singer (a true 3-octave range...even at 44 years old), a really, really good guitar player, he's got miles and miles of energy, and a huge stage presence. But, he is also a true genuine guy who sincerely respects Brad Delp and the legacy of the band. For those who don't care for the Stryper message, this one of the best secular Stryper tunes:

loved that !! GREAT rockin Tune.. terrible acting in the beginning..and it would really tick me off if i was moving all that equipment and they were dancing around playing loud..
i dont like the fact that m.sweet gets to sing lead,, play lead, and then toss his guitar when the song is done and act cool.. ozz gets nothing ..

Most of the shows were back to back because it just so happened that during the time we were taking vacation that year..that the Stryper tour was happening somewhat close to home. Anyway..he was on it every night..in an insane way I must say. Even the night he was sick.
I say it again and again. Michael and DDY not only can still sing..but maybe better than ever. I truly believe a clean lifestyle and continueing to sing over the years and then of course flat out God given talent is what has helped them.
Anyway..on the tour in 2003..he could go from singing a basic rock Stryper song like Always There For You to screaming on The Way to singing Honeslty. He literally had peoples mouths dropping at the shows. We always knew he could sing..but to hear it many years later live sound better than ever..wow. The live shows..that's where there's prove in the puddin'
My point in all of this..is yes..the dude can still sing and scream and talk just fine later and do back to back to back shows no problem.
Whatever this turns into..I can see him handling double duties with Stryper and Boston no problem at all.
Plus the guy can sing anything. He can sing a hymn, a ballad, a rock song or scream his heart out. He truly has an amazing voice and youtube doesn't even do it just.
LazzMan wrote:I hope this works out for him to do both. This is as much publicity as Michael has gotten since MTV brought Stryper into the mainstream back in the '80's. Even then it was more about Stryper and their message than it was about him. Good for him. So many talented Christian artists don't get recognized as the talented musicians they are simply because their audience is fairly limited. I always thought that he was one of the best rock vocalists around, anywhere. John Schlitt from Petra is another one. Here's a guy who, back in his day, could absolutely blow everybody else away but, if you didn't follow Christian music, you probably never heard of him. Unlike Stryper, Petra never got onto the MTV scene and they never did anything that could be marketed as mainstream.
I hope Michael can make it work with both Boston and Stryper. I have heard interviews with Robert and Oz and they seem to really get along with the Boston folks and they support Michael 100%. I see a potential problem and that is people will absolutely be blown away by him and Boston will get big again. This will put Michael at a crossroads...do I stay with something I helped create that supports what I believe or, do I go for a lot more money and mainstream success. A lot of praying at that point. Of course, the other "X-factor" here is his wife's health. She's in remission now but, Stage 4 ovarian cancer is about as serious as it gets.
