that is very interesting...so basically getting a natinal gig like Dave did is a cash cow...

I've had some experience with dealing with what people make for just commericals, resids and all, and it's amazing...

The bands image with Dave on vocals had a real authenticity to it. It was real. It was heartfelt. Just my opinion. By the way I may get laughed off the board but I always felt that Santa Ana Winds is to Survivor what Hotel California is the Eagles. Santa Ana Winds is that good!

But the real surprise is Dave on "The Serach is Over"...wow...

Search and Broken Promises really sound like they were written for Dave to sing. It's a very different feel than the Jamison versions, but you can almost tell the melody and phrasing were written for Bickler. He does ok on High on You (anyone know the timeframe this was written?), and considerably better than you would think on I Can't Hold Back (which was definitely written after he left). Either way, Search really does take on a different feel with Dave on vocals--probably that little bit of an edge that was missing, as it is one of those songs (like Journey's Open Arms) that can quickly get syrupy, sickly sweet if you if you take it too far in one direction.

Speaking of that show, I'm also impressed how well You Know Who You Are sounded live, especially as sterile as the studio version came across.

Can you imagine how good that show could be if it had of been professional? I mean guys, it's someone with a video camera in 1993...

And it rocks...Dave's ending to Search is the band at it's absolute best...He was really on top of his vocal game at that time....

Eye I have never heard Dave sing anything off of VS. Is it that good? How much of the album was written with Dave in mind?

i would agree...Broken Promises takes on a whole new level with Dave...

Yes Slander...if you are a fan of the Dave era, it is that good. I will say this though...beware...once you hear that boot, it will make you sick wanting more...

I would take out a loan to be able to hear an entire VS album with Dave behind the wheel...

Eye thank you very much. No offense to JJ, but I really wonder what would have happened had Dave not had his health problems. I still think the band would have been very successful.

Doubt it.

The Mohegan Sun boot from '99 I have Frankie plays the opening lead of Burning Heart before detouring into Eye.

That's too bad. I often wonder how the band would have evolved had Dave's voice held up in the 80's. I like their chances a lot!

They'd always open with a teaser Burning heart but never finish with Dave. At least the performances I've heard but there might be a time he sang it. Eyeof would know!

I always thought this gritty song would suit Dave. Has Dave ever sung Moment Of Truth?

Yeah he's not a big fan. I just wondered if they ever played this in concert at all. Even with Jamo.

Hey Eye,

Thanks again. What great stuff. At the same time it made me incredibly sad. Oh what might have been. I know the band had great success but I can't help but feel that what is heard in 93 is the real Survivor. What a sound. Dave does a great job with the VS stuff. Dare I say it: I like his version Broken Promises better! Dave please come back.

Slander,

Go back and compare the LIVE (versions) ending of Dave's the Search is Over from 1993 and JJ's from Extended Versions...it's not even close to comparable...not even close....

I like Dave's version of Broken Promises a lot better and the Search as well...and as Red put it...that's a wicked version of Burning Bridges...

And keep in mind dude, this was done with a hand held vhs camera in the early 90's...imagine what it would have sounded like in the studio...

It's sick....pure sick....

Wow. I converted everything to mp3. Was this a video or audio file? Just curious. I'm a tv guy so I'm not too bright when it comes to this stuff. Wasn't VS written for Dave anyway?

did I scare everyone away yesterday with that story I posted or what? LOL! to funny. anyway, listening to the boot right now. a girl has to have a great pair of boots, or at least one and this is the best ever! Dave should get his hands on this and sells some copies, he'd be rich! If only the internet was going back in the early 90's. They could have promoted themselves better. At least I would have known where they were and could have went to that show damnit! I missed so much back then! :(

I've said it for months now Silver. We need to have been the promoters of the band. What an opportunity missed. Dave, in my opinion, is an unappreciated gem. Is he silky smooth? No. But there is a raw authenticity that fits Survivor to a tee. Just my humble opinion.

I listen to internet radio most of the time here at work to a station out of LA. They play mostly hair bands from the 80's and they play alot of McAuley Schenker Group. I think Robin was awesome in that group, he fit perfect, but to be honest, he just doesn't fit well in Survivor for me. I have tried and tried to make it work for me but it's not peas and carrots for me as Forest would say. I think he's a super nice guy, a great frontman, but not the best choice for the band. Ok Slander don't hate me! LOl!

but I agree, I could have been the best marketing person for them, they just didn't hire me!

Hate you? :D I don't hate anybody. LOL. I never said I felt Robin was the best choice for the band. I merely believe he needs to be given a chance. That's all. I have seen him live and think he is terrific. He is also a great front man. I also like the stuff he and FS put together. It kind of had a Survivor vibe to it. No one is going to replace DB. It's that simple. I would love to hear Johnny Edwards do Survivor stuff. I think he would have made an interesting choice for the band too.
