FREAKY Arnel coincidence!!!!

Postby Rip Rokken » Sat Mar 22, 2008 9:21 am

I completely didn't expect this today...

So technically our office was closed for Good Friday, yet I found myself working (to pay off the balance on that gelato I bought in Vegas). One of my jobs is at a medical office, and this place is is full of rock chicks, who all treat me like a star when I'm there... haha! So anyway, I have to leave the site for an hour to attend to another issue. I come back, and two of these girls are calling my name from down the hall, and they look very excited about something. They say "You're back! We were looking everywhere for you!" I laugh and ask what's up. One of them asks me if I remember the consultant that was sitting in an office on one side of the hall, and I tell them I noticed him when I passed by -- looked to be of Asian decent.

So I don't know how their conversation got started, but they mentioned me and my trip to Las Vegas to see Journey, and it turns out this guy is one of Arnel's very good friends from the Philippines, and get this -- he's Arnel's son's godfather! They said he was super nice, and they watched tons of Zoo videos on YouTube together. The girls were going on and on about all the different covers he did, and how well he did them. So this guy is coming back on the 26th, and they wanted to make sure I got to visit with him. SWEEEEEEEEEET!!!

So is gelato more expensive in Vegas then everywhere else? Last weekend we went out for some of that, it goes for about $4.50 for a double scoop around here and the scoops are about half the size of a scoop at BR.

Anyways, Rip, nice story that you had there about the godfather thing and all. I'm sure Ttango can really fill you in on this but I will tell you my experience with the so called "godfather" thing in the Philippines. Let's just say that it's not uncommon that a son has several hundred godfather's in the Philippines. I know because I was asked by Ulysis if I would be his son's godfather. I was totally stoked about being asked to be the godfather of the AMO Band leader's son. Then a few years later when I went back to the Philippines, I found that half the guys from the town where Ulysis was from were his son's godfather. Yeah you could say I was a bit disappointed when I found out because I thought there was only one and I was it.

So since Arnel is somewhat famous now, I'm sure everybody and their mongoloid step brother is Arnel's son's godfather. Check out this little cluster fuck that I found on youtube today. And this is in Vegas? Wouldn't know that with all the language flying. Wait till he's in the Philippines without effective security.

Yes, I know what you mean about the gelato -- bought some this morning for $4.00, and the scoops are much smaller. But in Vegas, yes, we bought a single serving (split in 2 flavors) at one place for $5.95, and the next day did the same in the Forum Shops -- only they charged us $13.75!!! That was the last time I got stung on the trip.... LOL!

That's funny about the godfather issue -- I'll have to ask him about that! Maybe he's one of thousands, but the way the girls described it, he was also one of Arnel's closest friends there. Will be interesting to find out more about him next week.

Did you get a chance to check out that cluster fuck video I posted? If so you will see that all those people there were Arnel's closest friends too. When I was watching that video I could swear that I see that short little bald Asian dude with long hair in the back who was zapping who I think was Mel Gibson with a wet sponge and a car battery in a movie I saw about 15 years ago. I want to say it was one of the Leathal Weapon movies. Watch the video and you will see this dude near the door in the begining of the video. Looks just like the same guy  . Know what moving I'm talking about?

If you know Spanish, you should pick up Tagalog quick. Because they structure their sentences the same as Spanish, plus there are lots of words that will have the same meaning in both Spanish and Tagalog.

And yeah, I know Pampanga very well. San Miguel Lubao to be exact.

Yes, I'd seen it before, actually. Not sure about the Lethal Weapon dude, but I'll have to watch it again. I did see Eddie, though -- the guy who gave us our glowsticks to wave during "Lights" at the concert.

Eddie? Is this the same guy who you see in the video at the front door? I knew a guy in the Philippines in another band that used to play a few doors down from Cal-Jams. His name was Eddie "boy" Sarte. This guy could play his guitar to sound exactly like Eddie Van Halen back in the Roth days. Matter of fact, when I'd meet up with Eddie boy in Japan because his band was there playing on a contract, Eddie boy and I would go around to all the clubs that had live music and when the bands were taking a break, I'd have him go up on stage with his guitar and do a ten minute guitar jam, his specialty was Eruption by Eddie Van Halen. People would freak because he was so good and duplicated the entire piece exact note for note.

So this wouldn't be the same Eddie I don't think. Shit, the last time I saw Eddie was 14 years ago. From what I saw of the guy in the video, it doesn't look anything like him, but age does hillarious things to people. So find out if "Eddie" who gave you the glow sticks played in a band at Hot City and drove a ridiculously fast Japanese street bike in the Philippines.
