Listened to it again, yeah, it's cool. They have an in store performance on their myspace site too.
Brywool...glad you gave the other tracks a listen too...this band are very eclectic so it's hard to find one song which is representative.
I'd say "Anesthetize" is the most representative of their career. It's got the psychedelic stuff, the soft atmospherics, the electronics, and the metal all wrapped into one beautiful tune.
Yes...that's a good choice Progrocker. I guess another one might be "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here"....
I don't think that song is as much representative of PT, as it is one of the most kick-ass songs ever crafted. Amazing rhythmic work and great lyrics. Some good guitar solos, by both Steven Wilson and Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth.
You're right...it isn't as representative...but it still has a wide range of styles and moods....from abient...to CSN-style harmonies...to thrash metal. Also - it's only a mere 12 minutes long too so it can't really compete with the 17 minutes of glory that is "Anesthetize".
Still...totally agree on how great ASBNT is...possibly my favourite PT track.
Was listening to Moonloop earlier. Do you like that mid-90s period?
And I've never heard Opeth...what's the best track to start with?
I LOVE the Mid-90s period. I don't listen to it as much as I do the stuff from Stupid Dream forward, but it's still some very good music when I'm in more of an electroambient mood. PT was more Radiohead than Radiohead in those days.
I honestly don't listen to Opeth... one of my buddies is a hardcore fan though. If you don't mind death metal growls, Opeth is an incredible band... but if you're like me and get turned off by "cookie monster" singing, I wouldn't recommend it.
....Just got off the horn with my buddy, he says to try out the album
Blackwater Park. It's a mix of clean vocals and growls, and Steven Wilson guests as both a vocalist and guitar player. Says it's their
In Absentia, so to speak.
Trivia: Opeth is related to Journey! Well, not closely, but still related. Jeff Scott Soto performed in Talisman with Frederik Akesson, and Akesson recently joined Opeth as an additional guitarist.
