It continued in 1998 when HE refused to work, refused to 1et the band work without him (1987 de javu) and then 1awyered up and got himse1f a SWEET no show job that wou1d make most mafia underbosses envious for 10 more years.

That's c1assy?

No, RedJoanne is not ahead on points. Mike has thoroughly dissected this and has some valid points. I love Joanne, but dude is mostly cheering for a certain side and not looking at this from a central view.

Tell me this interview isn't going to either tear this Board apart, cause about 569 new headaches, or ruin the board altogether.

You better get some new moderators Andrew or create a special forum called Herbie Interview.

God help us.

Because Perry had him fired!!! Had him fired right before he didn't tour. Pure genius on his part...firing the band's "balls to the wall, we'll succeed no matter what" manager right before he ducked out of a tour, leaving the band with no lead singer, no tour and no manager to help them pick up the pieces and continue.

You can't really state this unequivocally Dan. No one recorded the timeline.

See, this is already starting the wave. They're coming, larger and faster.

What makes it impossible for some to believe Steve Perry when he said he needed time to heal? And why is it that Steve Perry is to blame if he wants to take time off? Singers or other artists do it all the time. Should he be forced to tour just because everyone wants to keep the car in gear? Why can't people just accept his desires for his own life?

What if Neal really wanted to tour, but Jon needed a break. Would people think Jon was destroying a band? It's the craziest thing I have ever heard.

Queen stopped touring at one point, even before Freddy was really sick. He decided he had a certain amount of time left and he wanted to live his life. He wanted to just put out records and do some promotional stuff. Which, from what I understand, is what Perry offered. So why is it that Freddy is not considered someone that destroyed Queen, but Steve Perry is considered selfish?

Do you have any idea how many artists take a long break after hitting the highest levels? Almost all of them. It's truly the single dumbest argument on this board. As if Steve Perry doesn't have a right to take a break if he wants. He certainly paid his dues and contributed a great deal to making these guys a lot of money.

By the way, I would be defending the others equally if the arguments were as stupid.

Journey waited for Steve Perry for TWELVE YEARS!!! And they were willing to wait for his surgery (if indeed there was one) but after almost a year and a half he hadn't even decided if he was going to have said surgery. After TWELVE years of waiting I think they saw the shell game being played and decided to move on.

Nope - never once implied it. More of a case of you assuming. Only one Ross has to thank for his "second chance" is himself and his support system. I'm pretty sure Steve Perry was nowhere near him for that.

No worries Andrew, they're not your words. Besides, if he starts trashing band members or revealing personal info..........anybody with half a brain cell will see the sour grapes for what it is.

I agree..and take it for what it is. Anyone can spin anything the way they want it. People are going to believe what they want and say bullshit to what they don't.

Whenever I hear of sour grapes I think of JY-Styx. He has sour grapes still and I see it for what it is. He cannot keep his mouth shut about DDY and I choose to believe about one percent of it.

Interesting too..once in my talks with DDY..he told me that the situation with him compared to Perry are completely different..even though in Behind The Music's..a lot of things came off the same way.

While this interview is going to be cool..people can say whatever they want in interviews and only those who were there know the REAL truth.

With the pending Herbert interview only days, perhaps hours, away, it might be a good time to decide what sort of responses to the interview will be most constructive for those named in the interview, and more importantly, this forum. Let's try to maintain some sort of order as Andrew has waited for this interview for years, and I'd hate to see his big feature turn into what LA did when the cops that tuned up Rodney King were acquitted. I fully support Andrew running the interview in full, but as residents we have a bit of reponsibility to let Drew to have his day(s) in the sun and react and discuss the contents of the interview in a semi-sane way. Being one of the resident assclowns here I'm certainly not saying that I'm never a jackoff or imbecile, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna act a fool on the owner's big day(s).

Lastly, some have mentioned that there may be what some deem as "personal" stuff in the interview. Relationships, especially difficult ones, have scars that don't always heal. I'd ask that we all think about what it would feel like if we were in said person's shoes. While we have almost all been guilty of such "jokes" and/or generalizations about Schon, I have a feeling these may be of a bit more specific interview. They were wrong then and they're wrong now (myself included as much as anyone). Though not all may think so, I think there's a huge opportunity to thank the boss here by taking in the interview, discussing its contents in a civil manner and moving forward. This is a Journey board (past and present) and they have a lot more contemporary and important stuff to talk about than what "Herbie Springer" will provide. Let's do this right, folks. Enjoy the interview. I know I will, but let's do it right. 8) Cheers, Andrew.

We'll get you that mod job at BT yet SJ!

Soapbox..

Hey...maybe I'm old fashioned...but doesn't anyone just READ these features anymore, and appreciate them for what they are? Must we 'prepare' as though the end of the world is coming? It's seeming more and more like there are people here who feel it is their 'obligation' to stir shit up, regardless of the cause or effect....it's just their "Job" - and it's hard as hell to pinpoint one person, because at times, EVERYONE takes on the role (Hell I'm probably doing it know, but it's not my intent). I, for one, am looking forward to the interview as one of enlightenment. The man is a friggin legend....and I'm betting he's got a lot to say....and I'm sure Wombat will ask the right questions, but it kinda brings the whole tone of the entire thing down to a crawl knowing I'll have to read all the flaming that'll go on. Is it against some rule to just enjoy the feature anymore, or MUST there be World War XIX between the readers?

Okay - stepping off my box. Go ahead and flame me for trying to be of sane mind.

Agreed that GEM is shit, but I have a feeling Kahne just might be able to pull out a couple. Kid's been amazingly consistent and if not for some bad luck at Atlanta he'd probably have five Top Tens right now.

Kahne doesn't have the equipment to win but I feel he has the talent to clinch a victory if put in the right situation.

No flames buddy, BUT;

The problem is there are many on this Board and many who lurk and read this board, that know the band members, both past and present personally. They are not going to want to see their friends hurt, and truthfully, Herbie might be outspoken, but if any of the the members that he talks about aren't asked about the stories, then there is a problem of validation. I am not saying Herbie is lying....however, there may be some stories he tells that are no one's business, some personal stuff that should remain, well, personal. That goes for ALL members.

Just saying.

Duly noted...but until the day actual people who KNOW actual people ACTUALLY step up and say "hey..what the fuck"...all we as readers have to go on...is unvalidated Herbie statements he may or may not make....that we may or may not be able to validate..my point is not the validity, lack thereof, or potential lack thereof. My point is 'why is everyone PREPARING to FIGHT about it....when it's really just an interview'....a damn fine interview I'm sure....but just an interview...

It doesn't really matter to me - you have to realize I became a fan last year when the highlight of the year were Kasey's Allstate commercials! :D

I'm happy with top 10 finishes (and more Allstate commercials) : D

The fun of NASCAR is having a driver you really love and a few you really hate! :D

Having to develop a taste for Bud, that was hard. :D

Hard to argue against Gordo or JJ this weekend. They've dominated the place for the past five years. I'd say both get Top Fives for sure, both will lead a ton of laps too.

Yeah, I'd say top five this week will be some combo of 24, 48, 18, 17, 11.

I don't care for either driver...shy of the fact that unfortunately they're now Hendrick teammates to the driver I follow (aforementioned) but if I had to pick a driver on SKILL..it'd go to the 24....he's got seven wins at martinsville....Johnson's got 3, and sadly Earnhardt Jr's. got zippo.. It's late, I have to work tomorrow, I'd love to continue this, but alas, I must sleep sometime. Night all...

OT - I never saw Dale, Sr's crash until this week - I was stunned that something that looked so run-of-the-mill by today's standards had killed him :(

Dale, Jr seems much happier and relaxed this year with his new team. I just love the racing - machines vs. strategy vs. skill - what's not to love? :)

Their team is shit.

Well then - that was my thought....I just couldn't take my eyes away from that pretty sparkly number 9 in the signature to say it....but then again...I'm a die-hard earnhardt fan till the day he died...which makes me obliged to follow Dale Jr....which in turn, gets me flamed horribly most places I go....so..have at it...

I was AT that race in Daytona the day Dale died....seven years ago at the 500...I was a grown man - 24 years old...and even "I" cried that day seeing that..and hearing it sitting in deadlock traffic on the radio....even when traffic started moving..it didn't really move that day....
