OT: 15 Healthiest and 15 Unhealthiest States

Postby Enigma869 » Wed Mar 26, 2008 10:26 pm

As usual, New England is very well represented, in terms of being a very healthy part of the country to call home! The only warm weather state on the top 15 is Hawaii! The top 5 are

1. Minnesota
2. New Hampshire
3. Vermont (has been number 1 numerous times)
4. Maine
5. Massachusetts

As for the least healthy states...The key is simply don't live in the south (what the hell was I thinking). 6 of the top 10 unhealthy states are in the south, as usual! The top 5 least healthy states in the U.S.

1. Mississippi
2. Louisiana
3. New Mexico
4. Nevada
5. Florida

No, the key is simply to choose the right foods to eat, exercise, and not over indulge at the table. Has nothing to do with where you live.

Florida's unhealthy because all the crusty old timers from up north migrate to Florida in their old age. Maybe that's why New England states do so well!

John, do you have any idea what the the four major food groups of the South are?

1- Butter
2- Skoal
3- Mayonnaise
4- Jack (Daniels)

False...what about pollution? You could be eating polluted food and breathing in polluted air.

If you say so! I don't agree with that premise, AT ALL! The reality is that if you read the criteria for these lists, it goes FAR beyond the dinner table! The truth of the matter is there were TWENTY ONE factors used to complile the list, and obesity was simply one of the 21. Suggesting people eat tofu and ride their bikes to work is missing the point!

I also don't believe that in the 30 plus years that these lists have been around that it's a mere coincidence that it's always the same states (the order changes from time to time, but the states don't) at the top, and it's always the same states at the bottom. Not to mention, I would think people who live in a much warmer climate would be outside exercising a whole lot more than some poor guy in St. Paul, Minnesota on a January morning

True, but they are always shovelling snow - lots of it. Great excerise.

Plus besides when you are always inside due to the cold , whats there to do besides give your partner a little extra loving? That burns 500 calories at at time ( if you really get into it). And gives you a warm glow :!:

Being from New England, I am an example of this. I sit on my fat ass all winter surfing the net and watching TV. I look like a beached whale come April. Then the shock of seeing myself in shorts and t-shirt sets in
