Yeah for some reason Perry can only pull this one off, and its from the original recording, I've never heard anyone cover this song well. I hate this idea of re-recording the classic songs, the classics are what brought me into this band, and I can honestly say if Perry wasn't at the helm when I first heard Journey, I would of never become a fan - this puts an ill feeling in my gut, and soils my love for this band even more. I'm looking forward to buying their new album, but couldn't care less for the tainted re-recordings.

so your saying you only like journey because of steve perry, his looks, how nice he is, sound like ever itunes downloading music stealing droan out there, a good song is a good song, if kevin chalifant had co/written and sang those tunes journey would had been a hit band, maybe not ass big but still big. because the songs were good and so was the production.

You're right in that a good song is a good song......but it has to have the right voice to pull it off too. Perry's got a one in million voice, so he pretty much adds to any song. You can have an absolutely great song, but if you have someone like Bob Dylan singing it, it does nothing for me. But then I am probably biased, a good 80% of my music enjoyment comes from the vocals......other 20%, drums. The vocals make or break it for me.

I agree...with one caveat...live vocals as opposed to studio vocals. Nearly anyone can sound good in the studio, but being able duplicate the same quality during a live performance is what sells me. Many people sing...only a few of those_can_sing.

Frankly, none of them should have ever been touched. This will be one of Arnel's downfalls, because he will be thrust into a comparison/scrutiny with Perry that JSS, Augeri, Chalfant and many others were never subjected to...
Remember folks, Mitch Malloy had the van Halen gig after Sammy...but turned it right the fuck down as soon as Roth walked onto stage with the other 3 at the MTV Music Awards. His feelings on this, adequately conveyed in an interview with Andrew, was that you simply can't follow an event like that without undergoing insurmountable scrutiny. He knew that he stood no chance after that...and we all know how Gary Cherone did instead.
The fact remains that the more Nick Schlong and Yeast-Boy try to rape their past with Arnel as their conduit, they will increase the difficulty of acceptance exponentially.
Even though it pains me terribly to say this, Arnel stood a passing chance of success if they just released a double CD/DVD. One album of new songs and the live DVD.
But by rerecording these songs, the new CD will NEVER be judged on its own merits...and Arnel will live or die with how well he cops Perry. I'm sorry, this has cluster fuck written all over it....

I am.
I love it.
And evidently my mindset as it applies to the triple disc Revelation is in tune with the band's because the first thing I planned on playing was what is disc 1, the re recordings.

That's because you don't love Perry's voice as much as most of us do. There is no way to improve those songs.
