David Gilliland, a quasi-teammate of his!

True, but was that not also the case when the 38 got into the 17 to start it? lol. I'm sure Gulliland didn't do it on purpose, but it was not a very smart move. I'm not proud of Matt, but after listening to him on the radio all race, I could sure understand his frustration with the day he was having. That's short track racing, I guess! lol. Thank God he normally runs great at these next two tracks. I've seen him win at both!

I'd love it if they’d add a short track race and a road course race to the roster, but limit them to only the best short track and road course racers - and make them shorter races, then let them just bang it out. To me it's just not a race if the cars come back clean, lol.

My favorite Nascar commercial is the one with Johnny Cash singing "Ring of Fire" to pictures of big black donuts on the cars, lol. (also love JJ's Kobalt commercials)

Yeah, Yates Racing is pretty much leechin' on Roush these days. Same engine shop, chassis etc.

Heck, I heard Roush might share a few sponsors with the YR #28..

Don't worry, Dean. Ford Racing in NASCAR will go the way of the Pontiac within ten years. They just can't keep up with Toyota and Chevy.

Well, Edwards has won two races in the 99 Ford.

Now going away I don't know, but I can see Dodge leaving. They are shit.

GEM- 1 out of 3 is a consistent winning threat
Ganassi- 0 out of 3 is a consistent winning threat (1 on road courses)
Penske- 1 out of 3 is a consistent winning threat
Robby Gordon- That says it all

20% of the Dodge drivers are legit threats to win every week. Agreed, Dodge sucks the proverbial big one!

I cannot believe this, but I am actually going to the All Star race on May 17th - got my plane tickets today, doing the VIP meet and greet with Dale Jarrett (my friend LOVES him and it's his big day with a fancy UPS car for his last start). I hear the guys really duke it out here. Kasey has to qualify to get in, but I don't care! I'l be in the HEART of NASCAR country and I am thrilled!!!!! :D :D :D

Lowe's Motor Speedway is a gem of a track.

You do know who owns that place right?

The 48. Kasey is running well this year.

Just so you know, Chevrolet and Toyota both had new engines last year. Dodge will have one later this year. Ford will have their's next year. That, and the quality of the teams, are about the only variables left now that we have the new car full-time.

And the Pontiacs didn't really go away, they just reskinned them as Chevrolets. Remember, Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart both won championships in Pontiacs, before switching to Chevys.

My bad. So which are 17's best tracks. 48's are the speedway tracks, right. (though he's getting pretty good at the short tracks, too.)

I know he needs to learn some discipline and take some anger management classes, lol - but I'm sure loving watching Kyle Busch drive everything with wheels. He is just so good. Careless, but man he can drive. (Maybe he could take a page from 17, lol. Isn’t his strategy usually to 'save it for the finish line?')

I know the 48 saves for the finish, and I believe the 17 is smart as well. Kyle is perhaps too hard on his equipment early.

Well, last fall at Texas, Kenseth stayed on old tires, and Johnson pitted for new tires and when he caught back up to the 17, they proceeded to put on what most people will tell you was the best side-by-side racing of the year before Johnson finally won out. It wouldn't have been so bad for Kenseth fans, except Jeff Burton had done the same thing to him in the spring race. His last five races there have been 3rd, 2nd, 12th, 2nd, and 2nd. He also won there in 2002. So he ain't too shabby at Texas.
And Johnson isn't the only multiple winner at Vegas. Kenseth has won two in a row there, and finished 2nd to Johnson two other times.
We're going to Phoenix next week. He's won there.
He's won at Richmond.
He's won at Dover.
He's won twice at Bristol, leading over 400 of the 500 laps there the last race with the old car.
While Johnson was winning the Championship at Miami last year, Kenseth was dominating that race.
He's the winningest Nascar driver at California.
He's a multiple winner at Michigan.

He's said many times that the 48 team has been the best team the last five years. But he's the only other guy who's been in every Chase with them.

Nice post Gary. I like Matt. Seems like a good dude. However, I like the sentence "when Johnson was winning the championship in Miami."

Hey, JJ was going for 5 in a row, unprecedented. I wish he would have really gone for it. You know they held back and went for the championship.

You make a good point. Rick Hendrick wasn't too thrilled with Jimmie racing Kenseth so hard in Texas. He could have eased up and still coasted in for the trophy. I loved that battle. I kind of knew he would get by Matt because of the new tires, but the 17 raced him hard and clean. Matt has always been a good clean racer, as has Jimmie.

Gary, come on though, had Jimmie won Miami, 5 in a row would be unprecedented. I bet you Jimmie wanted to go for it and Chad talked him off it. Hell, I wouldn't surprised if Chad made the car "not good enough" to ensure a safe drive.

BTW frfksakes, I doubt you'll find many who'll argue kB (as opposed to KB) isn't the best pure driver in the Nascar garage. But there's a whole lot more to it than just stab and steer. I've been saying since Kyle was 17 driving a Truck for Roush that he's going to win multiple championships. But he needs to learn Dick Trickle's #1 rule of racing. "To finish first, first you must finish".

I don't know about that Gary. I am sure if Gordon, Johnson, Tony, and Matt were younger and dumber, and didn't give a shit, and held a huge grudge(Rick Hendrick), they could be as good as KB. Those guys all know how to win championships, and have the bigger picture in mind.

That's why they win championships. They use their head too. For the record, last year someone on a Nascar site was asking for most underrated drivers, and I said Jimmie Johnson. Even though at the time he had already won a championship, I didn't think he got the credit he deserved. Obviously, Stewart and Gordon can wheel a car with the best of them. There's a few others. I don't like Kurt Busch, but the boy can drive. And Robby Gordon can drive ANYTHING really well. Your buddy Biffle is no slouch either. I think Kenseth uses his smarts more than the seat of his pants. But as young as he is, I don't think there's anyone out there that's better at just driving a racecar for all it's worth than Kyle.

Can we agree Gary that Jr sucks. Flatout blows. Uses up his car, brakes, tires, and makes dumb moves. Isn't too bright either. I think he will absorb through osmosis from JJ and JG and be better, but he won't finish ahead of them this year.

I hate to say this all the time, but the Chase just favours JJ every year. The 48 is so good on those tracks. I can't see anyone beating them again.

PS= how old is Kenseth? He looks old because he is balding. I do like him and Biff and Carl.

Well, I don't have anything against Jr. really. I hated his old man, but I don't mind him. A LOT of his fans are obnoxious. Probably holdovers from his Dad. Or they just like him because the only thing they know about Nascar is his name.
I don't think he's much more than a journeyman driver though. He had a lot better equipment than Matt when he lost out to Kenseth for rookie-of-the-year. And no, I don't think he's too bright. lol.
I will say one thing, he took a big chance going to Hendrick. There were no more stepmother excuses. And so far, at least, he looks pretty smart.

BTW, I think Matt is about 35.

For me, that’s just it. Kyle is what those drivers were when they were young and had fewer restrictions - either from age or responsibility.

I don’t think there is anyone else right now who can get in any vehicle, from any owner and drive it to the front as often as Kyle. He is the most exciting driver to watch right now, (unless you have to pay for the damages, lol).

Fort Worth forecast for Sunday is mostly sunny, high of 84, 10% chance of rain. Sounds like a GREAT day for a race! Texas, here we come!

Oh my goodness!

McDowell's wreck was a MONSTER. I said "Oh my" like six times while he flipped, huge impact... amazing testament to NASCAR's safety developments, to see him walk away from that wreck. Absolutely phenomenal.
