GO PACK GO--- hell baseball is only 2 games in and i am already pumped for he NFL!!

The NFL announced on Monday that the Green Bay Packers will begin the 2008 season against the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field in the first game of the opening weekend's Monday Night Football doubleheader.

Kickoff time is slated for 6 p.m. (CT) on Monday, Sept. 8. The second game of the opening Monday night doubleheader will pit Denver at Oakland.

This will mark the fourth time that the Packers will open their season on a Monday night, and the team is 3-0 in its previous Monday openers. The first one was 35 years ago, as Green Bay posted a 23-7 victory over the New York Jets on Sept. 17, 1973, in Milwaukee.

Opening the season at home in prime time could provide an opportunity for the team to retire quarterback Brett Favre's jersey, No. 4, but no decision will be made until the full schedule is released. The team has told Favre it would present him with a few different options once the full schedule is announced, which is expected to be sometime in April.

This also will mark the sixth time NFC North rivals Green Bay and Minnesota will meet on a Monday night, dating back to 1997

I heard that Favre still has not filed his retirement papers. Could he be having second thoughts?

Wow two great rivalries on opening day. Living in England, that means I ll be up all night - maybe make it to bed about 5:30 am.
Good for us vikings fans- we get the dreaded trip to Lambeau Field out of the way before the cold weather hits.

Dude...you can't be serious! The "Bungals" are one of the absolute worst run franchises in all of sports. Those fuckers have 10 guys a season getting arrested! They have to first stop drafting thugs, and then worry about football issues!

They have played in two Super Bowls. Many teams have not played in any. I agree they are not run well, but I would place the Cardinals, Lions, and Saints below them.

I know. I'm seriously considering not getting "Sunday Ticket" this year. Watching the Raiders every week and getting outraged and paying for it makes no sense.
Defense looks to be pretty good this year though.

I personally thought their defense was decent last year. My problem is the revolving door policy with the QBs. Defense ain't worth shit if you can't put points on the board. They haven't been alive since they made it to the Super Bowl several years back. That was the game that started their coma.

The best QB on the team is Andrew Walter. Coaches eliminated him first as a starter. He's young and makes some bad throws but if he ever gets a half decent offensive line with whatever team, he'll be pretty good.

I would agree. :) I hope there is a MAJOR shake up this year, ie the coaches and good ol' Al Davis pull their collective heads out of their asses. They have been in there so long I think any kind of bright light may turn them to dust.

As long as Al Davis is alive, there will NEVER be any hope for the Raiders. The once proud organization that they were is history! They have become the laughing stock of the NFL with their endless bumbling moves! Hell, they gave a defensive lineman on their team that nobody has ever heard of, the biggest contract in the history of the NFL (for his position)!

The only recent success they've had was due to Davis' grudgingly giving control to Gruden. Which resulted in the great team that was assembled. I don't see how Davis can NOT realize this.

A decent chance of what? You seriously think in the Western Conference that the Jazz are going to be the team to emerge??? I would say that the Jazz won't even be among the final four teams in the Western Conference. There is a chance that a team in the west will win 50 games this season and not even make the playoffs (which is UNHEARD of in the NBA)! I'm just looking for my once proud Celtics to hang their 17th banner (which is LONG overdue)!
