I have to admit, at the risk of being called an asskisser, I'm a little more partial to Frontiers in the line of tribute bands, simply because they don't try so damn hard to make you think it's journey up there....but given that..

here's another

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI10o2bGwA4 (Don't STop Believin)

and another

http://journeyshow.com/cw11/Evolution_l ... e_Ways.wmv (Seperate Ways)

He's not that great on these two...NOTICABLE differences.

If you like that, go find some of Hugo's (lead singer) solo albums. Good songwriter, and good voice--especially when he isn't covering Perry. Too bad he doesn't perform more of his solo material, as it stands up well.

Sorry, it just kind of creeps me out. The whole trying to look, act, move AND sound just like Perry (and the rest of teh band) thing just feels too cheesy. It's like something you'd see in the casino lounge at the Stardust or something.

I think Hugo rocks! Love his Valentine stuff as well as his solo stuff. I know people here whine and complain about him looking too much like Perry, but honestly... can the guy help it? He looked like Perry back in the Valentine days as well (1991), LONG before his Journey tribute band Evolution. The keyboard player in the Feelin That Way video does a GREAT Gregg Rollie voice as well 8)

I saw Hugo and his band Valentine at Firefest 4, and heard an amazing performance. He is a fantastic singer and Valentine is an amazing band. His own stuff his really underrated.

Evolution is an alternate universe Journey. Hugo is Kal-L. :D

That's the best Hugo/Evolution clip I've seen. Is that Sebastian Bach on base?

You're damned if you do and damned if you don't in that business.

I enjoyed that clip...I've seen both Frontiers and Evolution and they both do the music justice...for me that's what it's all about.

Evolution is playing the end of next month in NYC and hopefully I can make the show...it's a good fun time. 8)

I love Hugo's solo stuff and material with Valentine, however, he still sounds way too thin on the Journey stuff.

Its odd, when I first heard Hugo, it was the Journey stuff. He sounded way to weak. BUt his solo and Valentine stuff my oh my! Incredible. Particually his first album.

That's always been my thought. I think they would be fun to go see though. I'd love to see another Valentine effort.

Audibly it is was pretty darn good, but visually it was downright creepy. Hugo has to chill a bit with the Perry mannerisms, man.

At first, I thought the same thing about the creepy part. The more I watched their videos though...I guess I look at it as they're trying to bring you an authentic "Journey" experience. I guess I can't knock them for that at all. Like the guitarist, keyboardist and bassist...all trying to look and play the part. I actually think it's pretty cool now, and I think they do a great job as well. My hat's off to them.

That guitarist is Adam Holland. He's a great player in his own right and I'd argue can rock harder than NS these days. He has a soul that can deliver great melodies as well.

Dit-fuckin-to T,

Hugo is way under rated. I hear all the arguments on his voice is too thin, he looks like Perry, blah blah blah. GET OVER IT. Hugo has a great voice and has put out better Journey music than Journey post 1983. Journey should take note on how to actually rock and get out of adult contemporary plonker mode.

Neal, deliver on your "We gonna rock this one" statements for once in a row with Revelation.

For those of you getting ready to post without knowing WTF you're talking about, at least poke around on the following link and have a listen before engaging your keyboard and have some credibility.

http://www.hugotunes.com/about_us.html

Listen to the opening song on the entry page called "Walk Away," it's a good example of a Hugo ballad. Then hit the "click to enter" link to hit the main page. Listen to that song called "Tell It To My Heart" which is a good mid tempo rocker. Once you've heard those songs, then tell me he sucks, sounds like shit, has a weak voice, etc.

L8r man,

Aaron

Dude, for real. That's one of the biggest distractions as far as I'm concerned. If he would just be himself and sing, it would work better, but I'm so offended by his impersonation that I can't enjoy it.

Rick,

I agree, Hugo would do himself a great service by dropping the Perry impersonation on stage. He tries to do Perry as part of the tribute thing, but it carries over to his own stuff enough to be a distraction. I think Hugo is his own deal covering his own material but people tend to see what they want to see.

L8r bro,

Aaron

Hugo rocks - I would love to see "Evolution" or "Frontiers" live some day.

Jeremey vs. Hugo - I can't make up my mind. You guys both rock!!

Valentine is great - "No Way", "Someday", "Where Are You Now" are my 3 favorites.
