Where are you seeing this? I just sold a shitload of computers recently and had my money in my account within 3 days

Beginning March 14, 2008, the PayPal User Agreement is being amended to include a new section 10.4 as follows:

10.4 eBay Item Hold.

eBay item hold. PayPal, in its sole discretion, may place a hold on a payment you receive for an eBay transaction when PayPal believes there may be a high level of risk associated with the transaction. If PayPal places a hold on your payment, it will show as "pending" in your PayPal Account.

Release of eBay item hold. PayPal will release the eBay item hold after 21 days unless you receive a Dispute, Claim, Chargeback, or Reversal on the transaction subject to the hold. PayPal may release the hold earlier if either of the following applies:

(a) The buyer leaves positive feedback on eBay, or

(b) PayPal can confirm delivery. PayPal will confirm delivery if you use USPS or FedEx to ship the item and (i) use PayPal shipping labels, or (ii) upload tracking information to PayPal via the transaction details page. This applies to US domestic transactions only.

Additional hold period. If you receive a Dispute, Claim, Chargeback, or Reversal on the transaction subject to the eBay item hold, PayPal may hold the payment in your Account until the matter is resolved pursuant to this Agreement

* have more than 5% dissatisfied buyers in the last 30 days

* are listing items in the following higher risk categories (and sub categories): gift certificates, video games, cell phones, computers and consumer electronics

That right there shows that their is a CRITERIA for the hold and many will not experience such a hold, unless you fall into this criteria.

Also, wanted to add, having paypal as an ebay seller, if you are going to sell regularly is a good idea. It broadens your market appeal because it is quick, easy, safe and secure. Buyers want to use it for their protection.

Paypal is NOT safe and secure for sellers. If a buyer wants to do a chargeback, you can be out your item and the money. Perhaps you've just been lucky so far.

I've got 99.4% good rating and no longer accept PP for high priced items (over $100). PP does broaden the market but also gives scammers access to you.

Plus, as RIP said, they gouge way too much for what they do.

We use it to bring money in and we have never had an issue with them. It's the people who don't sell much, are new sellers, have a bad standing with ebay or who have very high dollar items who are affected. It's in Paypal's own interest as a business to do such things too. Why would they exist if they were to lose money and not make money. They are good for you as the buyer though in most cases. They are decent at protecting you from the fraudulent seller, in most cases. Though I have heard of some people still losing out, it is a better chance to take then sending cash or money orders if you are buying a big money item.

I meant that it was safe and secure for buyers. There are people who won't even bother to look at an auction if it does not take paypal. When I list my items, I want the largest number of people looking at and bidding on my auctions. I want the bidding war. So to have that at it's max, I choose to take my chances with Paypal. We pay ebay a pretty hefty fee for our listings too. It's the price we pay for convenience and for using their coat tails to make money.

If you ship everything with delivery confirmation, so that you can PROVE you have shipped the item, then it should take care of the issues of the buyer doing a chargeback.

And I don't think that $70 is that much for a $3000 sale, when that person probably would not have even glanced at that auction and trusted it without having Paypal available to them.

No, I didn't know about the feedback change. I can see why sellers leaving feedback on buyers could be abused and could be a problem though. A seller can make anything up to excuse their bad selling behavior just to tarnish a buyer's record. They care about the buyer, because in the end that is who brings in the money. They will always have sellers. They want buyers to feel more protected I guess.

I never noticed that on my lister. We use Turbo lister, and I think if you click on the "payment options" button there is a little box a the bottom you can click on that says "save for future listings" and I would think that the Paypal thing would not default for you. Unless you have a different lister, maybe not.

The last time I listed with 10 items I had 2 not pay. Ebay is about listing fees and see themselves as the only auction site. So now I intend not to accept bids w/o at least 30 items purchased on ebay.

a) Keep visiting, more users/visits means he can charge more for advertising.
b) CLICK on those ads on the front page (and why not in the forum too?) , so advertisers know they're getting interest in their ads!

Do you use CJ.com? They have a great pay-per-click banner ad program with all kinds of different advertisers. I use it on my forum. I mainly serve up musician-type ads, but they have every type imaginable.
