You really think they fabricated reports and searched for bogus reports just to bring us into war? You really think they sacrificed thousands of our finest young men and women for corporate profits? You really think they brought us into to Iraq, knowing they'd blow the shit out of it so Haliburton could come and and profit from rebuilding it? The place had horrible infrastructure anyway...so Haliburton could have done that even without the place getting blown to smithereens. Oh, was it so the oil tycoons could profit?
In retrospect, I think Bush tried to 'finish the job' that his dad left. When I look back, I think he had every intention of going to war with Iraq even before he took office. He thought it would be easy. He didn't believe we would be in Iraq for the rest of his Presidency. He felt it would be good for our economy and our place in the region and the world. So, 9/11 gave an excuse for his own selfish ambitions. He wanted the inteligence to go a certain way, so he presented it that way to get the support of the people and continue his McCarthyism tactics.
In short, Bush ignored history and common sense. Instead, he chose to believe the yes-men he surrounded himself with.
Next you'll say the price of oil is because of the war. What the hell would have happened if terrorist nations took control of the mideast and its oil?
Partialy, yes. More to the point, we do not have the refineries in place to create the gasoline from the oil to keep the price stable and as low as possible. I said this in other forums well before we went to war - because the conservative yes-men on forums like this actually believed the price of oil would go down, or Iraqi oil would pay for the war. Idiots.
Let's see...first they fabricated things, then they sought out as much BS as possible, then presented it to Congress as to hoodwink them into giving bipartisan support for the war. If they are as stupid as you all say, how could they have figured out to pull that off?
Bush and company used McCarthyism tactics to get people to vote in their favor. That is what 9/11 did - if you voted against the President, you were unpatriotic, should not be in office, or should be deported. That was the general attitude of many people back then. You were either for us, or the terrorists...to hell with the Constitution.
I don't like the fact we had to go to war any more than anyone else, but this BS that continues to be spouted makes me nauseous.
We didn't have to go to war. That is absolute BULLSHIT. Sadam had WMD for DECADES. He only became a 'threat' when his interests (going to war with Iran) did not match ours. Even if he had a nuclear weapon, Iraq could not use it against us. Give it to terrorists? How STUPID are you people? Would Hitler give the Jews an atomic bomb? That is about how much sense it makes. He murdered the radical fundamentalists in his country.
Did we forget WE gave Saddam weapons. WE trained Osama. WE made these assholes we are now fighting against. Now we are in Iraq training the next generation of people we will be fighting against. THAT is the truth of the matter.
Everyone forgets that the military was stationed all around Iraq during Pres. Goodhead's terms. They were not in Kuwait and other positions on vacation. There was word this was about to happen long before Bush 2 came into office.
Oh, please, and Bush 1 and Reagan CREATED both Bin Laden and Saddam. So, what exactly is your point? I spose it's Carter's fault for being weak? Maybe it's Ford's fault for not running the best Campaign, or Nixon's fault?
Did everyone forget the atrocities Suddam inflicted on his own people? Don't think he was capable of having WMDs? Oh ya, he dismantled and distroyed them and promised never to develop them again...sure...even though he actually had them and was not afraid to use them...since he did.
We certainly are not invading other countries which do EXACTLY THE SAME THING.
Did everyone forget he actually did invade Kuwait. Why did he do that? To create stability in the Mideast?
He did it because he wanted the oil money to pay for the constant state of war he was in with Iran...which WE SUPPORTED under both Reagan and Bush 1. So, here we are SUPPORTING Saddam in the Iran/Iraq war...why would he expect the US to care if he takes little ol' Kuwait?
The current administration may have screwed things up during the war, but the BS being spewed as to why they went to war is just that BS.
Yes, it is. We have been BS'd about it from the beginning. Iraq was NEVER a threat to this country. Sure, their neighbors were threatened...but not this country. The biggest threat to this country is in the White House making stupid decisions.
