Welcome back! Sounds like you've had an awesome holiday. Especially that helicopter ride sounds exciting; must have delivered some stunning scenery!

Pics?

Btw, did the coach take all the dull roads or were they say... very exciting  that you'd recommend to drive yourself around?

I would say the coaches would have to take the same roads we took in our rental car - and some of those were hairy enough in a car!!

The helicopter ride was awesome - up the face of the Fox glacier and then over and around Mt Cook....then back down the glacier.

Oh, you didn't take the coach! Yeah, I think I would prefer the car there... some years ago on the Canary Islands I saw busses doing hairpin turns on a very narrow road  I was very glad we had a car!

Would have been a great night. I saw Nightwish on Sunday night and thay were also great. Anette did a really good job. I was a bit concerned she wouldn't pull off the older Tarja songs, but she did.
Met a few Finns there too which was also great.

Iron Maiden are here tomorrow night, and I just found out today that VanishIng Point are a support band :D as well as Steve's daughter Lauren. The show was supposed to start at 8 but I rang to book a table for dinner before the show and was told that the show now starts at 6.45.

Whitesnake are playing in Sydney the same night as Taliesin are playing in Sydney. If there is any chance we can play and get over to see them i'll go...but i doubt it. I missed Heaven and Hell cause we had a gig the same night too.

I didn't know Whitesnake were coming, but if they come to Perth I'll definitly go. I'll have to check out dates.

Iron Maiden was great Snakey. Those "oldish" guys are very spritely running around the stage.

Vanishing Point were also very good but Lauren was shite.

Whitesnake are coming as far as Adelaide....considered it but ruled it out, given we just spent a lot of money on holidays. Damn shame.

I can't think about all the gigs I've missed in the past year and a half. I so BADLY want to go see another concert.

But there is one band I'm gonna go see. They're not rock per se, more jazzy with other oddball genres thrown in...but they're very progressive. Check them out:

Check out the song "Radio Swiss." Love the keyboard work on it.

Oh, they don't sound bad at all! Kind of laid back, and it's music that could really shine in a live setting. Very nice find!
Have fun at their concert!

been pretty quiet here lately....all the old regulars - is life just getting faster and busier, or are some of you growing tired of the board in general?

I've been busy. I've set goals for myself and trying to stick to them. I've put cds on hold. Outside of Ayreon, the rest of my savings has been set aside for a trip to the NY KISS Expo, as well as saving for a vehicle and practicing for the license test. (about time, eh?) I kept saying I would, but didn't because most essential things are within walking distance for me. Only this year, I truly have a use for one. My friend in New Hampshire wants to work on a music project, and New Hampshire isn't exactly walking distance.

My biggest hope for the KISS Expo is to see more cd & t-shirt vendors. I'm not much of a KISS fan, I go to find other things. My friend may even take me to one of the largest video game stores in the northeast, which is only ten miles from our hotel. That, is where I'll probably be doing the bulk of my spending.

I've also taken up drinking...for real. Not pretending here in this bar. I actually drink now. I developed a taste for Kahlua, Irish Cream, Ameretto, and other flavored liqueurs, while as your really hard stuff (whiskey, vodka, etc...) can't stand those. And for beer...Sam Adams Hefeweizen is good stuff! Every other beer I've tried has been on the undrinkable side, but that stuff is awesome. I'm no alcoholic, mind you. My meds pretty much limit my intake, so one dose of alcohol per day, and only on my days off. That's my limit.

I picked a good year to take a break from female rock reviews, because four months in, there's nothing to review. Nightwish's new album gets more than enough spins for the lack of new releases.

That pretty much sums up my year. Cheers.
(sips Hefeweizen)

Nah, I'm not growing tired of this board... Life has become busier, but not that busy. It's more that when it's so quiet and I haven't posted in a while the harder it becomes to post because it doesn't seem as urgent anymore, yet on the other hand it does... And I sometimes feel I don't have a lot to add...
Maybe we've all become like some old couple who enjoy eachother's company very much but don't have a lot of sex anymore, not that I would equal posting to sex , anyhow, the idea seems sort of the same.

Anyway, in a moment SnakeLady and I will be leaving for another Kamelot concert. We'll try and take some pics of our journey. ;)

When is the Kiss Expo, Jonny?

I just feel that life is flying by so fast now....I realize its simply a perception but at the moment I don't know how to change it. The weekends in particular seem to just whizz by in no time!!

I come here sometimes and it seems like onlhy a day or two since I posted and it turns out its a week or something....

I do 90% of my internet looking/posting/lurking while i'm at work.....so my internet lurking/looking/posting is fitted around the amount of work i have to do. I spend a lot more time out of the office in the last 6 months too.

I can't even think about how fast the time is flying. And here I've been, complaining it's not going fast enough. hehe.

I believe the first weekend of May. Can't wait. Tell you what, though, I wish my bro and my friend didn't have to work. Nightwish plays two days later, pretty close to where I'm staying. :( A shame they didn't sign up for the KISS expo. It'd be an improvement over the selection of bands that are playing this year.

A shame Kamelot, like Lana Lane, don't bother to do more extensive tours in their home country the US of A. It's awesome to know that an American band can compete with the best of the European Power Metal scene.

Tell you what, their early days were pretty awesome as well. Their debut sounds like a lost Crimson Glory album.

Europe is probably easier, with shorter travel distances, so a tour along small venues could be more affordable. I never got though how they hardly ever played in Florida, while they are from down there.

I have returned from the KISS expo. It certainly wasn't as good as last year. It was virtually all KISS oriented, totally devoid of the variety of last year. The t-shirt and cd vendors had only KISS stuff, and the few who came back from last year, only brought their vinyl records to sell and left their cds at their stores.

The bands were better than I anticipated. It was the sound man that sucked. EVERY band had feedback and sound problems. But none of them disappointed, with exception of the Def Leppard and KISS tribute groups. They wrecked the originals. As far as the best though, I was really impressed with the reincarnated Angel. The singer was the only original member remaining, but his line musicians had more energy and enthusiasm performing music than any other band on the stage that night. The keyboard player doing Giuffria's parts shredded through the solos with no effort on his part. When he wasn't using the throwback hammond organ or analog sounds, he used a slick sound patch fed through a distortion pedal. In one track, both keyboardist and guitar player were dueling solos back and forth, and through closing your eyes you couldn't tell them apart. Best band of the night. (Starz was also pretty good, but only a distant second. The Jaded ladies were as hot as ever, but had the worst songs and sound.)

So, unfortunately, I left empty handed, as far as merch goes. But I still had a few drinks, and had a great time doing so, even though the bands all suffered from a horrendous sound man.

I'll take a shot of Sortilege Maple Liqueur to go.
