OT- "Lippard"?

Postby RedWingFan » Fri Apr 18, 2008 6:56 am

So anyway Joe Elliott has come down with an upper respiratory tract infection and had to cancel a bunch of Canadian dates. Now they've cancelled the Grand Rapids and Detroit show (the Detroit show Saturday I have tickets for)
Why would they have to cancel if Joe lips? Since they're miming anyway, why not rake in the cash like Journey did?
Any theories? Deano? St. John? :D

Dean may swear that Elliott lipped, but I find it hard to believe simply cause when I heard him live he sounded a lot shittier than he did on the cd...

A few things here. First, the fucking guy smokes like a chimney from what I've heard, so that infection coupled with his smoking probably has him in the fetal position. Second, he probably didn't want to go to Canada in the first place, but their promoter scheduled it anyway. I mean...who the fuck would want to go to Canada? To see Moon Beam?   :P As for Detroit and Grand Rapids I see this as nothing more than avoiding two of the country's biggest shit holes. These cancellations are no coincidence. And for the record, Def Leppard doesn't lip but a fraction of the lead vocals. If they did it wouldn't sound so shitty. The choruses on the other hand are a completely different story.

Yep, everyone thinks their background vocals are tracks, but they are all just really good singers. They always have been. (minus Joe's recent troubles)

I agree with you to an extent. I wouldn't ever say he sounded that bad live. But they really polish his voice on their cd's. Which is fine with me. I love the Wallflower's studio stuff, but heard them w/ Jacob Dylan singing on SNL and it was horrible.

This is downright laughable. I was able to hear the DL guys singing the choruses...barely though because the piped in vox were much louder than they were. And thank God for that. Jesus, Lynn, these guys have been using backing tracks for 20 years!!!

So if they're immoral enough to do that why not pipe in a bit more and still get paid? I mean why would a bank robber tell a teller, "this is a stickup, only give me one-third of your money"? You're saying they're only willing to be a bit fraudulant? Why?

Dude, you need to watch their "Storytellers" they did. They did the chorus of "Armageddon It" accapella (sp?)
They did sound great.

Hmmm Dan, and what about Journey?? I think that might be Steve Perry I hear there in the background....

They are all good singers though Dan, and they all sing live into the mics. That is why their albums from the old days sound so good. They can actually all sing :P

There aren't too many DL songs that are difficult to sing until the chorus (except for the ballads), therefore they they only cut corners where they need be. And to turn your analogy around, would you rather steal $20,000 with almost no chance of getting caught or steal $60,000 with a great chance of getting caught? :?:

The evidence (tapes, hard drive) would already be there. I don't think there would be that great a risk to lip til Joe recovers anyway? That points to them being the real deal live, unlike Neal's band.

I don't even agree with that B. If you watch the raw footage from the Hysteria tour. He was rough even back then. I'm more of a fan of Leppard for the music and song structures. It's a band with a wider foundation if you will. I'd still be bummed if they lost Joe for some reason. Unlike Journey who was built around Perry's voice. Love them both.

I didn't mean Joe. I excluded him above. I was talking about the background vocals :P

I just saw them last month and will continue to see them as long as they tour. They are still out there making new music and they are still an entact band. Look at all the bands who can't or won't do that. I don't mind supporting them. If Joe needs help with his voice, I don't care. It is his fault for smoking and drinking though. I believe he has even admitted that publicly. They still put on a great live show. And I will see the other big lipper, Bon Jovi (so I'm told) next weekend and plan to enjoy them as well 8)
