Report: Climate change will threaten beer production
By Caroline McCarthy, CNET news.com
We all know already that climate change will affect everything from food prices to cute baby polar bears.

But now it's really hitting home, folks. A report from a researcher at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research in New Zealand suggests that rising temperatures may threaten beer.

An Associated Press report details the findings from climate scientist Jim Salinger, who presented his research at the Institute of Brewing and Distilling's annual convention in Wellington, New Zealand. The grim results? Climate change may affect the production of malting barley, an ingredient crucial to the tasty beers we all know and love.

If we aren't careful, the regions in Australia and New Zealand in which malting barley can grow could experience some tragic shrinkage. Salinger's study didn't extend beyond those two countries, but he did warn that "similar effects could be expected" across the globe.

"It will mean either there will be pubs without beer or the cost of beer will go up," the Associated Press article quoted Salinger as saying.

One word: Noooooooooooo!

I tend to agree. It hasn't worsened, and if anything has improved. I think it's still quite a bit warmer than it was 20 years ago. But maybe it's turned a corner?

1- I don't drink Budweiser. Tastes like ass.

2- Born on dates is a promo tool, designed to convince red state soccer moms that beer for daddy should be consumed before a mythical date.

3- Kasey Kahne still won't win a single race this year.

OMG - my daughter said the exact same thing about Bud!

What I can't figure out is how Kasey could have had such a good year (the year before I "discovered" NASCAR, of course) and then do so badly last year. He's doing better this year, but my expectations are such that I am excited by a top ten finish!

Just like you liberal morons can't see past the end of your nose that there are literally thousands of scientists and valid opinions that show man-made global warming is not occurring. That's why people like Al "false prophet" Gore and Robert Kennedy continue to demonize the other side in the debate and try to keep them quiet at every opportunity. I think that they are worried that their sources of funding might dry up a bit if people start seeing the truth for what it is.

I saw an interview where he tried to explain away the name-calling, specifically where he and people like Robert Kennedy like to throw around the "flat-earther" comments. He tried to compare them to the people who don't believe the moon landing ever occurred.

However, the man-maders are the ones who bear all the marks of "flat-earthers" because they are religious zealots who can't see the forest for the trees (probably because they think they have burned down from global warming).

i was just pointing out that science is used for both issues, yet people only chose to use the evidence to their favor.
but i will try again
even if it isnt "man made", the fact is global warming IS occuring, whether it is our "fault" or not. so something should be done to try and prevent it, but people have the mindset that if it isnt their fault then it isnt their problem . its called selfish. we all live on the earth and global warming is adversely affecting it, our fault or not, so it is our problem

This may be the most ridiculous argument I've read on this forum. At any point in time the Earth has been either cooling, or warming. But according to you we have to stop it? Complete nonsense.

Scientists in the 60s and 70s wanted to prevent global cooling by melting the Arctic ice cap. If they had done that, it would have been disastrous. So are the solutions that are being presented now to prevent so-called "man-made" global warming. This is now the same crowd that banned DDT, the best agent at killing mosquitoes and thus preventing the spread of malaria. Because of this decision, millions died. Are you suggesting that we leave the decision on what to do about global warming to these same imbeciles?

indeed, that sounds stupid. what i mean is all the things that people are attributing to climate change should be dealt with. i didnt mean stop the temp changes literally. are we supposed to sit back and just let stuff happen?

Conversationpc- You are correct about warming. The UN reported about 2 months ago that the earth temp hasn't risen since 1998. Scientists are divided and poeple like Gore make big bucks at this. Man tries to put the earth in his lifespan. 4.6 billion yrs and man has it all figured out in 100 yrs. I do believe DO EVERYTHING you can do to conserve and recycle. When I look at the skys of Rio, China cities and India they will polute more than the U S history( 100 yrs) within 20yrs . I hate to even think what Russia is up to. Anyone for the Olympics? Take your masks and maybe a few oxygen tanks !
