When they get to the Big Man's sax solo (which was friggin beautiful! ) Bruce hopped up on Roy Bittan's grand piano and starts pumping his fist in the air in time to the beat, while slowly rotating in a circle, so as to get the whole of the arena into it. I start doing it to, and when I look around , all 13,000 people are pumping there fists in unison!!! For a 13 year old kid, that was an amazing moment...I just got goose bumps typing it!
u2- 1987 / Joshua Tree tour. TONS of great moments in this show- the two coolest actually happened BEFORE the band came on and AFTER they left (the band was phenominal, but these two moments were sublime)
1st, before the house lights went out, they were playing the requisite rock and roll over the PA- suddenly the Beatles Twist and SHout comes on and the place just went NUTS! All at once, literally, 12.000 people jump to their feet and start dancing! I knew right then, we were in for a helluva night!
AFTER the last encore (the beautiful "40") the band did their thing of all walking off one at a time, and after Larry left, the audience continued singing the chorus ("How Long..." - if you've ever watched RED ROCKS you know how this goes) and, I shit you not, we all stood there in the dark singing that refrain for at least five minutes after the band was gone. It was just...majestic! (Goose bumps again)
...and after the show, I had really hot sex with my date...so that was pretty cool too!
i worked the u2 joshua tree show in indy at the hoosier dome, the fabulous thunderbirds were to be the opening act, but got stuck somewhere. one of the crew told me to check out the opening act, out came 3 guys in beards(not zztop) turns out it was u2 in desguise, played a bunch of obscure and blues stuff. very cool. i still dont think more than a couple thousand people knew it was them, opening for themselves.
