A lot of these cases do not get into the courtroom otherwise you wouldn't have folks still making absurd racist politically incorrect comments. There are just certain themes that fall into a certain categories that are more closely examined and heard then others in the high courts. Political Correctness is just a catch all phrase for people who feel better believing people are supposed to act accordingly and speak in a certain way as to not infringe upon the rights of themselves and their neighbor. It does not exist except if you believe it does.

There are certainly some who are wanting Arnel to fail miserably. The whole JSS thing sucked the big one but I hope Arnel succeeds. If not, who cares. He got to live out a dream.

Here's a thought - perhaps the guys in Journey have learned a lesson and understand what being their lead singer means in terms of physical use of the voice, and will plan their tours accordingly.

(Stop laughing! )

Seriously, I wish the best for Arnel, too. He seems like a nice enough guy and whether this gig lasts three months or three decades, it will be a hell of a ride for him! :)

Arnel must be having a ball with this. Everything he does is taken into a different level and being analyzed in a microscope. No matter what he says or do, it will always be given a different meaning to some people. This are the same people that tuned on his first show in Chile, and slagged him all over the net. But his performance in Vegas which was a good performance is not acknowledged by this same people. anyway, it makes it all fun.

No way Chalfant could step in...JSS did it and did it well. I am an Arnel supporter and am hoping this isn't an issue, but I mean in ALL seriousness I hope JSS could step in again if something were to happen. I'm not putting Arnel down by saying this......he's won me over.

As much as this may be a shock to some...I'm not one of them. If Arnel fails, we're looking at Journey becoming even more of a farce. The best thing that could happen to Journey is that they could dispell all of the nay-sayers by taking this shit to the next level.

Sadly, i dont see that happening. I'm just being a realist. If Journey tours Arnel the way they did Steve A and subsequently JSS, they're going to blow out his voice. It's just a matter of time. This is not the Eagles...or Bruce Springsteen. This shit is fucking HARD to sing....and it doesn't seem to me that this band has realized that. They just want someone to sing the material like a machine...

Hey, occupational hazzard and Pineda likely has no illusions about that.

But sitting around waiting on it with baited breath ready to pounce in gales of self-righteous laughter if/when when something goes wrong like Tom the cat and the end of the Pecos Pest Tom&Jerry episode is insane.

Well, it's what the order-takers are doing.
Remember then end of that episode when Uncle Pecos is on TV, my man Tom's watching and that GEEtar string breaks and then BAM!!! There's Tom about 1 centimeter away from the screen cracking up for joy.

Welcome to the Journey fandom. It has been this way with EVERY lead singer change since Steve Perry. SA got it; JSS got it; Jeremey too when it was thought he had the job. SP set the standard quite high, you know.

Chalfant would do well but only for a limited time. Dude's something like 57. Like someone else said higher up in the thread, maybe 20 years ago he'd be a good idea, but to begin singing such a hard catalogue so much at such a late age is just asking for trouble.

Welcome to the board. Quite a user name you got there, so why are you Pineda1? Are you Arnel or related to him? Just asking.....

First, about the song writing issue. That's pretty interesting that they are asking Arnel to do some writing for the band. That's a very positive thing. I hope he does write some songs and that they are really good. About the collapsing thing, I think what it would be like is if Arnel just didn't have the lung capacity or something. I hope it has nothing to do with his vocal cords, but never know.

Lastly, about the racial thing and the "white" issue. You have to really understand the way it is in the Philippines. The Filipino's themselves view being white or lighter as a superior aspect. That's why there are many skin bleaching and whitening soaps and cleansers in the Philippines. While I was living there, I noticed that all of the native people of the Philippines were not working and primarily stayed up in the jungle areas. They'd come down every so often to sell home made goods like bow & arrows, wood carvings, spears, and an occassional 35 pound monitor lizzard with it's trap wired shut so it wouldn't bite the ass off of someone. I asked my girlfriend who was born and raised in Pampanga what the deal was with these native people. She told me that they were not permitted to work in most places because they were dark in color. They basically look much like the native Australian's, if you don't know what that is, watch David Bowie's "Let's Dance" Video and you'll understand. So bottom line is, the vast majority of Filipino's view lighter skin as superior, thus why whitening soaps is a lucrative business in the Philippines. And perhaps that's why this issue was discussed by Arnel.

All the best my Melodic Rock friends.

Dave,

I think Kevin would do well in the role. He sounded great at the MRF in SB last fall singing the Journey material. His age is a factor but I think he could do it. Hell look at Hagar, he has to be damn near 100 and sounded great last fall at the Murat. Chalfant could do it. For how long, who knows.

L8r,

It is my understanding that Arnel checked out a few MR threads, back in July-August of '07.
Actually, it was that info (belatedly received) that got me curious abut MR in the first place.
Word is, he scanned MR again, briefly and at his relatives' suggestion, at the very end of
his semana santa break some weeks ago.

That last stay aside, his Philippine breaks from Journey are what may really do his voice in.
I am not confident about his voice holding out, if most of his 'vacations' in the Philippines
are going to be more about performing locally, than allowing his vocal folds some serious rest.

Kevin is the only replacement singer annointed by the band's creator Herbie.

In Andrew's interview, Herbie Herbert said Arnel was really good. Isn't that him formatting an opinion on Journey's new lead singer? Ok it's not an annoiting but since HH isn't akin to talking shit about anyone or anything than why didn't he thrash Pineda? IMHO it's because Arnel fits the group in Herbie's eyes and he's cool with the choice.
