So WTF Does Everyone Think of Pineda Now?

Postby Aaron » Fri Apr 25, 2008 9:19 am

Folks,

I've seen a lot of post of folks either liking the new material because it sounds like Journey or hating it because it sounds too much like Journey (rehash). What does everyone think of Arnel now that we've heard him on the new material? Here are my brief thoughts:

1. Sounds nothing like Perry
2. Sound nothing like Augeri
3. He's out front on the mix (about fuckin time)
4. Has good power where he's singing
5. Never Walk Way doesn't explore the top end of Arnel's range
6. IT DOES SOUND LIKE JOURNEY NOW Thank God

The dude doesn't sound like a Perry clone at all but he's fuckin good, much better than I expected. He has good power and doesn't vibrato every fuckin note like I've heard on live clips. And as much as it pisses me off, the little bastard has given me goose bumps twice every time I listen to NWA. I say kudos man, you sound great and it sounds like Journey again. Now lets here some more of that range on the other songs.

L8r,

Aaron

P.S. Remake songs SUCK! Faith in the Heartland to boot, give me a fuckin break! Fix this fuck up before it's released Neal.

Sure it sounds like Journey, but it doesn't sound like any NEW Journey.
The casual fan will hear a piece of it and think that it's an old song they forgot about, not something new and exciting.

You give casual fan too much credit. If they were casual like you say, then how would they know it's something they've heard before. Casual fan only knows Escape, and Frontiers....anything else to them sounds new.

Damn guys, will you give me a minute to fix my grammar errors before quoting? :)

And, this thread is not to bitch about whether the song is a rehash or not, it looks like there are two other threads full of pissing and moaning. I want to know what you think about Arnel's vocals on this new material please.

I cant agree with anyone who say that Pineda does not sound good on the new song, those people are the bitter ones.

Arnel sounds great on the song.

Okay, he sounds strong on lead and too blended on backing. There seems to be disparity between him being too far out front and the backing being too far back. In other words, I hear vocals that seem to be unbalanced and over-produced. I also think that AP still has a diction problem. There are some words where you can hear his accent. Right or wrong? Who's to say. But I know that I don't like it. In other parts, he sounds like Jimi Jamison. That's kinda cool.

But my connection to YouTube HD hasn't arrived yet, so current quality is poor at best.

Yeah, I'm going to reserve any comments on the mix til I hear the disc - no way you can get any sense from a radio recording posted on youtube, way too much lost there. I do hope the harmonies are higher on the actual disc.

I really think he sounds more like vintage Jimi Jamison than Perry. Sounds great on the song, but yes, I do agree, his accent is troublesome in small parts of the song, like when he says "Don't give up." It's a bit annoying, but definitely something I can deal with. Neal sounds killer on this song. It's going to be a good album.

I think AP sounds great and I love the song. Sounds like Journey. Anybody hearing this song is going to go "Hey, that's Journey" which I would think is exactly what the band would want.

Sorry I didn't notice the accent. Guess I was just enjoying the music.

I think Arnel is great, but I really wish he'd work with a diction coach. I love NWA but, unfortunately, his accent comes through very stronly (and no I wasn't looking for it). I can't wait to hear the rest of the new music now. 8)

Same as I've always thought. The new song doesn't change a thing. I knew Arnel was awesome before he was with Journey and I think Journey's awesome with Arnel in it now. I think too many people have a hang up on SP being with Journey. Granted, SP was the man, but god damn it, it's like your child hood, best years of your life but they ain't coming back. It's great to look back on them, but don't stop moving forward and enjoy what is going on now.

Funny how that works, in't it?

People piss and moan about the accent. You can barely tell and who the hell cares? If it's good, it's good. The guy could sound EXACTLY like Perry and people'd still bitch. Arnel is as close as you're gonna get. Yeah, closer than those other guys too. I can't believe this is still being discussed at this point.

I think you're wrong about that. I have nothing against Arnel and am not looking for his accent. It's just there. I sent the song to my life long Journey friend and she also said she doesn't liking hearing the accent in Journey music. You can dismiss it, but it is an issue and it's not just people on this board who hear it.

It doesn't really bother me as much as it makes the song just sound kind of "off" a bit. I love the song. 8)

I don't care about a fucking accent you people are talkin about. Arnel's vocals is awesome as simple as that. Hell, there's so many different English Accent in this whole fuckin world, from Europe to America to Australia to Africa and to Asia and so forth and so on, so why is it so much of a big deal? Well, I did'nt notice Arnel's so called different American English Accent any way in NWA.

Not a big Journey guy myself, although I like some of their songs. I was just ripped for being a Triumph fan by someone on here and that's ok. My advice, if you like a band do not worry about what others say. You have a right to your opinion and so do they. I love Triumph, but some people like Brooks and Dunn. Doesn't make either side right or wrong.

Triumph fucking rocks! Saw them in concert years ago and had a great time. Rik Emmett still has it too.
