I guess they're hoping the casual fan will think it is a brand new song.

I think you're exactly right that that's what they are thinking. But I think FITH is deserving of getting another chance. The first few tracks on Generations are very underrated - because Generations was handled very poorly. Even though it was given out at concerts, most copies were probably used as beer coasters.

And it fits more on the new release than the CD of songs everyone has heard 1,000,001 times. Plus it's still topical.

Doing "Faith in the Heartland" again? Almost completely ripping a song from RoR for the lead single? Half the known new songs being described as "ballads" with titles like "Like a Sunshower"? Not a single surprise on the re-recorded classics either...

Plus, the live stuff... only Arnel and Deen seem to have much energy these days. Piped-in backing vocals don't do much to help either....

Would it hurt that much to take a little bit of a risk on this new stuff? Throw in a re-recorded "Winds of March," "Walks Like A Lady," or "Chain Reaction" for the pure hell of it? Stop recycling songs from past albums? Hell, I'm sure some of the new songs have probably been in the tank since the Arrival sessions..

All that said, I HOPE I'M PROVEN COMPLETELY WRONG.

And I am still 100% in support of the Arnel-fronted lineup and want the band to enjoy success. I'll still be buying the record and hopefully attending a show or two. However... it's just kinda sad that there aren't many signs of Journey really challenging their boundaries at least a little more like they have every album up to now.

Prove me wrong, fellas.

i am still not sold yet... however, they are not slowing down. a long tour with europe and the US is not slowing down.

Re-recording FITH seems lazy, true. But if it is because they really believe in the song than COOL. I just don't want this to become a trend started with Self-Defense.

The song belongs on the NEW disc, not enough people are aware of this song to be on the 're-recordings og Journey classics' disc.

This song definately brings some rock to the NEW disc. 3-4 songs have already been described as ballads and there is an 'majestic' instrumental that 'spreads out'. So that is almost half the songs at a slow pace. They need the rock!

I hate to look this far forward when we don't even have this disc yet, but if all works ouot and Journey return with another CD with Arnel collaborating THEN we can "worry" about "lazy" or "chemistry".

Personally I think Jon and Neal are stuck in a rut and that is why they NEED outside writers or another band collaborator like with Perry. Even in the PR's Neal is the rock, Jon is the ballad. They might work together but I think they need something to blend them together, right now it is like they are stuck together.

As for NEW songs sounding like retreads of others...that has been going on for years. Arrival had several and when we first heard TPIYH it was immediately reminiscent of ATL. There is almost always an immediate connection to previous songs. Is it lazy or embracing their sound? Was the WCN solo rip-off laziness or truly an homage? Who knows? I think we just need to quit worrying so much, and simply listen to the music. If we enjoy it, GREAT! If we don't, we move on and/or wait.

I see the possibility that they really are married to that song and maybe they weren't satisfied with the original off Generations and this was a place to put that to rest.

I don't see the problem with the Generations one, to me it is a fantastic song and Augeri's best most powerful vocal performance.

Perhaps we're all indulging in over-analytic navel-gazing on this

Could be as simple as they have "faith" in the song and want to give it a second shot.

That's just it, until we hear what they have done with it than we can't really judge if that is the case. I think the "original" was great. Maybe Arnel just flat out "brought it" so they recorded it. Maybe the better production helped. But what if it just sounds the same? Then is it just a case of giving the song a 2nd chance? Or were they lazy?

Re-recording classics makes good business sense. Re-recording Journey songs that the casual fan, hence why they didnt record things like Winds of March.

But they could've thrown the hardcore fans a bone....I am tired of it being ONLY about the casual fan. That is my one continual gripe with Journey, they seem to have discarded their die-hard fans for the casual ones. A business move for sure, but a short-sighted one.

No that is a good point. Wouldnt of hurt to throw one old Journey song on there, even as a "bonus track"

Edit; however, considering hardcore fans arnt bothered about the re recorded disk anyway, i'm not too bothered

Indeed.

Gotta resist some of the knee-jerk reactions to title reading.

I wish that the FITH redo had been put on the other disc, and replaced where it is with another brand new origina.

I guess they're hoping the casual fan will think it is a brand new song.

That could be true....After all, there are only 5800 posters at The Journey Board. So there should be plenty of "Casual Journey Fans" at the shows. Only the 5800-6000 posters at the forum will know it's not a new song. I like FITHL. I think it was cool to re-rcord it. Alot of bands do that. Why not Journey?

I been away for a bit. Redoing Faith In the Heartland for the new disc?

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

That song's 'okay' but I already bought it once. Make it a web site download and give us something new. If you're gonna redo something, redo the songs that Ross and Cain sang and have Arnel sing em. FITH was fine as it was.

I'm hoping that's a misprint or a Europe-only deal. Lame...

however the only one who seems bored to me is Jon. Neal seems to have a good time with Arnel.

Wasn't he the most reluctant of the group to have Arnel on board?
