April Wine's a good band that was produced poorly. Their drums sound like cardboard boxes. Terrible sounding band, but decent songs.

I saw VAN HALEN open for BLACK SABBATH / BLUE OYSTER CULT (Black & Blue Tour) in 1977. Van Halen blew the roof off the old Louisville Gardens. Van Halen was not the opening act for very long...

I saw that show, NIG , with ACCEPT thrown in as the opener. NOVA kicked ass (last night of the tour- in his encore he brought the road crew out and they all did the gator!!!) but when I met him backstage later that night BOY was he a prick! (My bud Jimmy got me backstage and we tried to get his autograph and he totally blew us off.) and yes, he's about 3 feet tall...

Most surprising opening band I ever saw was WHITFORD / ST HOLMES (speaking of BOC, as they opened for them and FOGHAT) They absolutely blew the hair off my head. Derek St Holmes is one of the best front men ever...

2. Goodbye Thrill opening for Scrap Metal at MRF1. Goodbye Thrill was a very pleasant surprise. Their disc is still getting a lot of spins in my player. It's excellent AOR.

I remember seeing Greg Kihn Band open for Journey in 82. No one knew any of their songs beside the Break up song and Jeopardy but they still rocked.

I too saw Van Halen opening for Black Sabbath in the UK, back in 1978. I'd never heard of them before, but they were fantastic and I went out and bought their album (their only one at that time) the very next day.

Another act that really surprised me was Danny Vaughn, opening for Journey in the UK last year. He, with Tony Marshall, only played a short accoustic set but they won many new fans during that time, who have been introduced to the rest of Danny's fabulous back catalogue.

J. Geils open for Peter Frampton. Frampton was getting all the hype for his live album but Peter Wolf and the boys blew Frampton off the stage. Frampton Live was overrated as he had very little showmanship.

John Cougar for Heart. He was just starting out and actually played the same song (Jack & Diane)twice. Once during the original set and once again during the encore. Only time I have seen that happen.

Pat Benatar for Loverboy. She has some serious pipes.

After going to the Big Easy several times I started listening to some zydeko....yeah, fun party music...got some BZ which is great for summer BBQ party's.

Thanks to the wombat putting some Vaughn on MRX I started checking him out... got "Traveller" when it came out last year....awesome CD!...all the songs are very good, so I highly recommend it.....in one song "Thats What She Says" he incorporated one of my favorite sayings that I have on a plaque in my home....
