Why I appreciate Jon Cain

I was just thinking today about how Jon sees Wal Mart shoppers as Journey's key audience (didn't he say that in a recent radio interview?), and how he pictured a song he co-wrote with Jeremey as being about Jeremey -- another song about a struggling guy who had hopes beyond his situation, I think -- and it hit me how fortunate I am to have such timeless songs being written about me... the little people, who like a gerbil running around in one of those wheels, works day in and day out to eek out a modestly-comfortable living, but who also keeps the faith that one day I will win the lottery or get featured on Extreme Home Makeover.

Thank you Jon, for understanding our plight and caring enough to immortalize us in your tunes... And I want to give something back... I should write a song about a band who toils year after year on the road, persevering thru lineup changes, so that they can make enough to pay their own bills like us little people do. I'm glad to have musical heroes that I can relate to.

Actually, we were celebrating my daughter's graduation with her Masters in Teaching. I asked for the "JSS Specialty", or actually I asked for the caprioska-what-ever-they-call-them drinks. They forgot the sugar in the second one - trust me, you MUST have sugar. I added it at the table, I mean geeze.

Every time the wife and I huddle up by the space heater in the kitchen, solemnly eating a small plate of spaghetti with Sam's Chinese Choice Marinara Sauce TM (the slogan is, "The Sauce Is As Red As The Source"), we listen to "Don't Stop Believin'" and pray and hope that one day we can upgrade to shopping at Target.
