NBA Finals East vs. West Prediction

Postby RebornJrny » Fri Apr 11, 2008 3:27 am

So who do you think will be competing in the Finals this year. I would say Celtics vs. Lakers. And Lakers will beat these overated Celtics in 6. :)

Overrated? By who??? Dude, you need to check yourself! The Celtics have been in basketball purgatory for over 20 freakin' years, and have been IRRELEVANT in the NBA! Since their last championship, they've had two players DIE, and lost WAY too many games! The fact that they have the best record in the entire NBA, and all anyone is talking about is the Western Conference tells me that these Celtics aren't remotely overrated! The Celtics have handled every team in the West with ease, throughout the season. They also recently (within the past month) swept Dallas, San Antonio, and ended Houston's 20 something game winning streak by smoking them by over 20 points! As for your wish for your Lakers to take on the Celtics in the finals...Be careful what you wish for!

Huge Laker fan and I would love a Lakers vs Celtics match up, but I cant agree with the Celtics being over rated. As much as I don't like them you have to give them credit for what they've accomplished this year.

OK, OK. I think I'm exaggerating with the word overrated, just trying to get your attention. Anyway, their toughest competitor in the East would be Detroit. And don't ignore those Wizards, remember they beat them 3X this year and hopefully they don't play them in the playoff. As for the Lakers, the toughest competitor here in the West is the Spurs. They still the veteran team and very experienced playoff team and still have the heart of the champion. But it will be exciting for Lakers and Celtics fans to see them play in the Finals.

1 season...Spurs have been top 5 D for as long as Duncan has played. Defense will continue to be their strongpoint and while I agree that the C's have finished #1, I remind you that the LEAST has 5 teams in the playoffs whose team winning percentage is lower than the GS team that DIDN'T make the playoffs in the West. In short, The C's excelled against crappy teams but did well against the Spurs. But I know the C's are good and would love for these teams to meet in the finals!!!

DNA~The Jazz are going to have to stick to the half court game AT ALL TIMES if they are going to pull off this series against LA.
I have NEVER seen such a display of flopping and acting as I have from the Laker's!!!If nothing else LA DESERVES an ACADEMY AWARD!!!
Kudo's to Kobe for FINALLY including his team!!! If he gets the MVP he will deserve it and it only took what?? 10~12 years????
Sorry 78, they ARE GREAT though!!!

Congrats to Boston...MY GOD, that should have been over in 5!!!! PISTONS...you piss me off too, your series should have been

Hey MG, Cant argue with the flopping cause I only saw the last quarter when the whole Jazz team was about to foul out, But whatever it takes to win right  As far as Kobe, I agree`and he could have won the MVP along time if he passed the ball around the way he's doin now. And sorry DNA that was close, but the Lakers are closing like a Championship Team and I dont see this goin more than 5.

Completely moronic statement! The Celtics record against the West was 25-5 (best in the NBA). Feel free to look it up on espn.com! The Celtics were also the only team in a gazillion years to beat all three Texas teams in three straight games, and at the time, ended Houston's 20+ game winning streak!

I think you're underestimating the Celtics, tremendously, if you seriously believe that they have the record they have by excelling against "crappy teams". They played all the same teams that every other team in the NBA played, and came out with the best record. While having the best regular season record certainly doesn't guarantee a championship, it at least tells me they have as much of a shot as any other team in the NBA does!

Pistons 22-8 against the west...and that's 2007-2008...usually better!!!
Yeah, we do play the west throughout the regular season!! I'm pretty sure
we even brought home a few championships....and the Celtics..WOW!!
But what matters now....is NOW!!!

Would you agree that Eastern conference outside of Detroit and Boston, for the most part is an easier schedule than the West where for the last few months, it was a dogfight all the way to the last game of the season to determine seeding?
If you agree with that, then you'd take note that since the bulk of their games in the east was against lesser competition, than the Celtics didn't have to play that hard to get W's. I'll concede the 25-5 but note that each West team that is in the playoffs started their playoffs in March.
Spurs vs Celtics, Tim Duncan has never lost a series to Kevin Garnett at all.

Of course I agree that the East doesn't have as many strong teams as the west does. That doesn't mean much. The AFC was far better than the NFC in football this past season, and I'm pretty sure an NFC team won the Super Bowl! I also believe that both the Celtics and the Pistons are better than any one team in the west. The west has a lot of VERY good teams, but not a single dominant team!

ttango1 wrote:If you agree with that, then you'd take note that since the bulk of their games in the east was against lesser competition, than the Celtics didn't have to play that hard to get W's.

I don't agree with the premise, AT ALL, that because not all the teams are as strong that the Celtics "didn't have to play that hard to get W's". You don't win 66 games in the NBA by not playing hard, regardless on who is on the schedule.

ttango1 wrote:Spurs vs Celtics, Tim Duncan has never lost a series to Kevin Garnett at all.

It looks like Tim Duncan and the Spurs better worry about not getting swept by New Orleans, before worrying about the Celtics, or any other team in the east! Also, your comment about Tim Duncan having never lost a series to Kevin Garnett tells me you don't quite grasp the game of basketball! I'm pretty sure that it's a team game and that Duncan isn't beating Garnett. It's a 5 on 5 game. While I certainly think that Tim Duncan is a GREAT player, and a first ballot hall of famer, he's been surrounded by very good players, throughout his entire career. Garnett spent most of his career with ZERO talent around him (with the exception of one season) in Minnesota! Even Michael Jordan didn't win by himself!

Kobe is winning the MVP this season for one main reason...He's never won the thing before! Writers in ALL sports are notorious for giving a guy a "lifetime achievement award" if he's never won an MVP, even if there are more deserving candidates! Kobe has had a great season, but in terms of the "MVP", I'd give it to Garnett all day long! The Celtics had 24 wins last season, and somehow managed to win 66 this season, for the greatest one season turnaround in NBA history. Garnett was THE REASON for that huge turnaround, and I believe by definition, that makes him the MVP.
