Even though Perry may still have the magic power of the music in him, let's lay it on the line: Neal fought the good fight, but in the end Perry got lost in his world of fantasy. In other words, they are no longer allied forces. The moral of the story is to follow your heart, and to never surrender. When you live for the weekend, you've got to hold on to your dreams.

It would be a hard road to pull it off, but if they were able to do it, they would tear the roof off the place. It would definitely be a rock-n-roll machine and a hot time in the city that night. However, I'm afraid the writing is on the wall. Perry seems to be spellbound with the idea of never touring again. In addition, Neal and the fans would ask him, "Why can't this night go on forever?" Perry's likely response would be that the party is over because he's not feeling that way, and he will just keep on runnin'. Then Neal points to Arnel and says to Perry, "It could have been you." Perry replies, "I was happy to give one show tonight, but I've got to be good to myself. I'm just not ready to ride that wheel in the sky again. Only the young can sing these high-pitched ball-busting notes, and no positive touch is going to turn my 60-year-old pipes into those of a 30-year-old. So, it's time for me to escape again. Send the fans my love."

It seems as if Perry is saying to Journey, "I'll be alright without you."

I think the big difference this time around is that Perry has watched "Journey" toil away in complete obscurity since Perry decided to retire. Perhaps he had some insecurity when he initially heard these guys were getting back together with a new singer. It would be a natural emotion for a VERY emotional guy to feel. At this point, he realizes that Journey is beyond irrelevant, in today's music world (probably even with Perry), so I'm not sure it really matters much to Perry what the guys calling themselves Journey are doing these days!

My hunch is that is was a combination of both that prompted Perry to pick up the phone (and then microphone) and bring everyone back together.

I just don't see Perry recording ANYTHING again, let alone recording something under the Journey name!

From all accounts, nobody needs to hold a telethon for Steve Perry. He has never seemed hard up for cash, and doesn't strike me as the type who has ever lived an extravagant lifestyle. While we all love money, I suspect he has plenty. As for the music...I thought "Arrival" had a lot of great music on it, and that didn't seem to motivate Perry to get back together with these guys, so I don't see it happening just because Arnel is in the band . I truly believe Perry is beyond content with his body of work and with his legacy. In spite of some of the criticisms demanding the guy to record again, he strikes me as someone who knows himself VERY well. He simply decided that he couldn't or had no desire to record music any longer, and it's never really bothered me. Perry will ALWAYS be the quintessential vocalist to me, and I'll never hold it against the guy for not wanting to endlessly tour, to support Neal's 13 ex wives. For many (myself included), Perry will ALWAYS be Journey. While I still enjoy the music and will definitely purchase the new CD, it will NEVER be close to the same as it was for me 30 years ago!

Good replies. I probably agree.
This latest demo rumor though, if true, means that he might be wanting to do something.
Tough call.

So very well said.

So, Lora, does this mean we probably won't get the opportunity to hear those "demos" you spoke about a little while ago????  (I know that this was a remote possibility and not etched in stone -- just wishful thinking for a lot of us :D )

On the other side it, now that they have Pineda, would Schon even entertain it?

Or is it really NO MOre TAils for Perry?

If it ever happened, I don't think it would be about the money, it would be about the creativity. IMO, the only way I could ever see that happening is if the 2 of them got rid of the whole Journey machine around them......and sat down as friends with no pressure and see what came out of them.

Couldn't agree with you more, Deb. And I could absolutely see that happening. Even Lennon and McCartney would occasionally pal around in the 70's without band pressure...or the public's knowledge. Does anyone remember the Saturday Night Live skit, when Lorne Michaels offered money to the Beatles to reunite on SNL? Turns out L&M were watching the show together at Lennon's place and were THISCLOSE to actually stopping by...but canned the idea last minute.

You should watch the movie "Two of Us" it was a 'what if' dramatization movie about John and Paul and it show that whole thing and Yoko's hold over Lennon. It's a complete work of fiction but still a good movie. Aiden Quinn did a great job as Paul McCartney. I think it was a Vh1 movie.

Speaking of beatles, check this out: John serenades Paul. Funny stuff. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ym3kgqlEwmc

Re: "Two Of Us". At first I didn't think the guy playing Lennon was the right choice but ended up impressed with his role. Quinn was good as Macca. Not bad for a guy who doesn't look much like him. Good mention.
