Three more weeks.

Postby Rick » Sun May 11, 2008 3:20 pm

I can't remember when I've been so amped about an album release. Actually it's 23 more days until the Revelations CD/DVD set is released.

I think Arnel is the long missing ingredient that Journey has needed. I still say that I would have ultimately preferred JSS taking them onward, but we weren't afforded that. But this way, I can see Journey and JSSB. That's a win, win.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I hear ya. Wonder if Journey will ever revive/rework the one original song they did with JSS.

In looking of other stuff, I see the Wal promoting Revelation pretty often. Usually next to Clay Aiken's new one.

Which is probably no coincidence. I suspect the marketing guys at Walmart see both artists appealing to the same market.

LOL Rick, I'm counting too, 48 sleeps until......Image

Jeff Scott Soto headlines the first night of the festival, bringing his
talented mix of rock, metal and funk back to San Francisco after
recently fronting Journey. Joining him onstage for a special guest
appearance will be Dave Meniketti and Phil Kennemore from Y&T,
as well as Eric Martin.

Oh ya, not counting sleeps, but kinda looking forward to Journey's cd/dvd too.

If the "missing ingredient" is a tenor for hire who can hit notes, then you're right.
Personally, I'm looking for someone who not only covers the catalogue, but can take the band to greater heights.

Agreed.

I'll reserve judgement on Arnel's ability to help the band progress, until I listen to their next album and songs he wrote with Cain/Schon.

IF the next album has formulaic, dry cut-and-paste jobs ahoy... then he's really not the missing ingredient.

If the next album, however, has advanced the Journey sound into at least a slightly different form... then, indeed, he was a great choice.

Looking at the last 10 years; I guess you don't consider getting songs on the radio prior to what is looking like a major release for a new album greater heights?

Glad Journey is getting airplay, but record sales and radio play really aren't the true measuring stick of musical artistry. A part of it, perhaps, but not the alpha and omega of an artist's ability.

No, not when you consider that their last major release, Arrival, also got limited play on classic rock stations, as well.

I keep looking at your av of Misplaced Childhood and it makes me smile.....i was lucky enough to see parts of this come together in the studio and always got backstage passes to the gigs - the best ones were where this album was previewed prior to release....all because my older brother went to school and was (still is) a good friend of Fish - i'm originally from a small town called Dalkeith, where Fish was born - he is a brilliant guy - very witty, sarcastic and enjoys a beer. My brother has tapes of him playing guitar and fish singing but he won't put them out as they are crap and he is still in touch with the man...p.s. his latest solo album is excellent.

I'm with you. I think Arnel is most certainly talented and the new songs are definitely Journey, but I'm waiting on the "spark" so-to-speak.

I am willing to keep an open mind and see how things progress.

I'm excited as well about this album, but I'll be in Japan when it's released. So hopefully I can get my hands on at least one of them when I get back in July.

You were present in the studio during parts of the creation of Misplaced Childhood? I'm truly envious. What I'd give to see that.. this album is powerful, magical. Marillion are a phenomenal band.. perhaps one day I shall enjoy a beer and a laugh with Fish myself, I'd love to have a good conversation with that man.

With me loving the first four Marillion albums as much as I do, I'm surprised I haven't gotten anything from Fish solo yet. I'll have to do that.
