Thanks for sharing!

As an aside, what is with all the Youtube videos of Arnel, Journey or Steve Perry solo being turned into flame wars?

When Arnel did his first performance, I watched it on Youtube. I thought it was good, but I noticed that Arnel didn't seem as "on" in this performance as he had in the Zoo. I chalked it up to nerves and said "no doubt, he'll be better next time".

Immediately, I got a bunch of emails in my YouTube box calling me a "racist", and someone who "can't get over past band members" which made me kind of puzzled as my comment had nothing to do with his race nor was I comparing him to Perry, Augeri, Soto or Fleishman.

Then I started seeing more Journey videos on Youtube (as well as Zoo, Perry solo videos) and noticed the same thing. Rabid Arnel fans fighting with Rapid Arnel bashers.

Every video seemed to have these things going on.

Nice! The thing with Arnel is you watch him talk, and it's like "oh, gee, he's such a nice guy and gosh his hair is growing out and I wish I could understand Tagalog" and then he sings and it's like:

In a good way.

And who is the other guy singing? He wasn't half bad. I don't hear any accent with Arnel when singing and I'm pretty in tune with accents.

Then again I could be going deaf from too many rock concerts. :D

There's a lot of nationalism surrounding Arnel. These same people who bash also post videos of Steve Perry with Arnel voice overs singing Journey songs as though Arnel's voice is coming out of Perry. Right, like that's going to get long time fans to warm up to Arnel.

All of this annoys the hell out of me because it's supposed to be about the music, not the race of the guy singing. If I critique Arnel its about his performance and his performance alone. I could give two shits if the guy was green with yellow polkadots.

Agree completely and utterly! I've just never seen anything that extreme before! If I wrote, "Hey - I think Arnel has a hair out of place for a split second", I wonder how many "you racist American pig, while you were dining on your fat meals, Arnel was eating garbage in the streets" type comments?! (Which is basically what I got last time - even though I'm neither racist, nor American, nor fat, nor disrespectful of the guy's talent)

What this video really is demonstrating is how American songs by American bands are so popular over in the Philippines. Really there is not too many Americans in America who really get into Tagalog songs.

But this is not just happening in the Philippines, I notice this in Japan as well. Back in the 80s I realized this for the first time that America pretty much closes the door to Asian music and musicians. Uly of the original AMO Band had emphysized that fact as well during my stint in his band in 94'.

The botton line is American music and movies are as part of everyday life over in the Philippines and Japan as their own music and movies are. I've always been happy that this was happening over there.

And as for the Led Zep tune at the end, cool......looks like they were having a great time and eating some good foods too. But I prefer the Japanese all-girl band Show-Ya version of this song the most.

I've never eaten a piece of sushi I didn't thoroughly enjoy.
